Reminiscence on HBO Max: Sci-fi meets film noir
The sci-fi thriller Reminiscence is set in a near future where the world is plagued by natural disasters, wars and economic crises. People have few prospects for a better life and retreat into the past. A novel technology transports users to memories of a happier time. Many are already addicted to the virtual reality escape.
Memory technician Nick Bannister (Hugh Jackman) helps his clients find happy memories in their consciousness. One day, the attractive Mae (Rebecca Ferguson) enters his office and Nick falls in love with the mysterious woman. After her sudden disappearance, Nick is drawn into a dangerous conspiracy.
The Martian – Save Mark Watney on Disney+
Sci-fi veteran Ridley Scott raked in seven Oscar nominations for his 2016 adaptation of Andy Weir’s best-selling novel of the same name – but still came up empty. At the Golden Globe Awards, however, “The Martian” won two awards for Best Picture and Best Actor in a Leading Role (Matt Damon). Scott also received the Saturn Award for Best Director.

Chosen: Netflix original between sci-fi and coming-of-age comedy
The Netflix original Chosen comes from the pen of The Rainmakers and is set in the Danish province. Seventeen years ago, a meteor struck the small town of Middelbo. The crater and rocks became a tourist attraction and helped the town gain fame and money.
A group of teenagers around seventeen-year-old Emma realizes that not everything in Middelbo is as it seems and believe they are on the trail of a conspiracy. At the latest when Emma meets an alien, it is clear that something is wrong.
