Resident Evil 7: PC VR mod makes good progress
What Capcom refuses to do, a modder delivers: a PC VR version of Resident Evil 7, motion controls included.
Resident Evil 7 came out a whopping five years ago, but is still one of the best VR games. Unfortunately, it’s still reserved for Playstation VR to this day. Capcom made no effort to release the VR version for the PC, although the effort might have been comparatively small and the PSVR version alone terrified a million people.
Recently, Capcom announced that the remakes of Resident 2 and 3 as well as Resident Evil 7 will be released for Playstation 5 with graphical improvements. Unconfirmed is whether the latter game will support Playstation VR 2. As usual, there was no new news about a PC VR version.
RE 7 VR mod: Soon with motion control
PC fans of the remakes have been able to play Resident Evil 2 and 3 in VR since the beginning of the year, motion controls included, thanks to the work of modder “Praydog”. Resident Evil 7 and 8 are also supported, albeit rudimentarily.
Over the past few months, Praydog has continued to work on VR mods for the latest Resident Evil installments. A new video shows the progress the modder made with the PC VR mod of Resident Evil 7.
You can see motion controls, support for room-filling virtual reality, and full-body simulation. The PC VR mod of Resident Evil 8 should also benefit from the same improvements. By the way, the PSVR version of Resident Evil 7 only supported gamepad controls.
The release of the RE7 mod is still pending. Praydog does not tell when it will be ready. But it can’t take much longer.
RE2 and RE3: Now even better in VR
The PC VR mods for Resident 2 and 3 have also been greatly improved since their release earlier this year, according to the Flatscreen to VR discord. Another modder named Ashok has also reworked the fluid locomotion, which is now smooth and even, improved the interface, and upscaled the textures so they look better in VR.
