Meta Quest 2: Two important features to look forward to
At least two major updates will reach Meta Quest 2 this year. Both mark milestones for Meta's most successful VR headset to date.
The first half of the year is almost over, and among many little things, it brought two major improvements to Meta Quest 2: hand tracking 2.0 and new interfaces for augmented reality, which allow the VR headset to permanently anchor digital objects in the environment and make them more immersive in the experience.

Compared to the first half of 2021, there was less exciting stuff for quest fans this year. But the year isn't over yet, and if we believe industry analyst Brad Lynch, there are at least two major updates planned for Meta Quest 2 for this two-year period.
Lynch has gathered some interesting rumors about upcoming software features from his Meta sources and wrote about them in his recent Cambria leak.
Two important features to look forward to
The first of the two major updates planned for later this year is to introduce Meta Accounts. The new system was announced at Connect 2021 and is supposed to free Quest users from the Facebook account requirement. With this decoupling, Quest 2 could finally be released in Germany as well.
The second major update scheduled for this year, according to Lynch's sources, is Horizon Home. The new social feature will allow you to invite friends to your starting environment and explore the beginnings of the Metaverse together. Horizon Home was also announced at Connect 2021, but has been three years in the making as a key foundational feature.
New launch environment focused on work and productivity
Lynch further writes that Meta is working on a complete overhaul of the launch environment, but it will take much more time.
The Quest launch environment is slated to receive a new interface and become more productivity-focused. According to sources, the features are either in an experimental phase or even further away from release. Secondly, the launch environment will be optimized for a higher resolution and frame rate. Project Cambria's possible 12 GB of RAM should help with that.
Lynch also writes that Meta works on NFT support, as well as the possibility to create a custom launch environment.
