Showtime for Playstation VR 2? Sony announces CES press conference
The Playstation VR 2 will probably take center stage at Sony’s CES press conference. This is what the teaser image of the event indicates.
So far, Sony has held back with advertising for the new VR system. Playstation VR 2 was introduced piece by piece in unspectacular blog articles. Yes, there were also trailers for upcoming PSVR2 games and here and there a press preview of the hardware and VR games. But it was not a full-blown marketing campaign, for which Sony may have reasons.
Sony teases PSVR 2 focus for CES 2023
The VR system’s market launch is barely two months away, and CES 2023 would be a good opportunity to get people excited.
The world’s largest electronics trade show will take place in Las Vegas from January 5 to 8, and Sony will hold a press conference on the opening day, which will be streamed live. The Youtube teaser image shows a woman wearing the Playstation VR 2. A clear indication that the VR system will be one of the main focuses of the show (along with the unveiling of Sony’s first electric car). That makes sense, after all, the market launch is imminent.
Sony CES press conference: What to expect
What new things could Sony reveal about the VR system at the press conference we don’t know yet? The technical specifications, price, and launch date are known.
Sony promised more than twenty launch titles. It is quite possible that the complete launch lineup will be presented. Sony manager Hideaki Nishino hinted in a Famitsu interview that not all launch titles have been revealed by far. There might also be a longer trailer for the flagship game Horizon Call of the Mountain with new gameplay.
Sony might also take a closer look at the technology or announce software features of the PSVR 2 that we don’t know yet. A VR live streaming and a cinema mode that allows experiencing 2D content on a virtual screen in HD resolution and HDR have already been teased.
Playstation VR 2 will be released on February 22, 2023, and will cost $550 / 600 euros.
