Resident Evil 4 VR mode will be playable for the first time at TGS 2023
Probably the most anticipated game for Playstation VR 2, Resident Evil 4 VR will be playable for the first time at the Tokyo Games Show.
Capcom has just announced its line-up for Tokyo Games Show 2023. Titles that will be playable at the studio's booth include Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy, Exoprimal, Monster Hunter Now, Street Fighter 6, and Resident Evil 4 VR Mode. The Tokyo Games Show takes place from September 21-24 in Chiba, Japan.
In June 2022, Sony hinted that "Playstation VR 2 content" was in development for Resident Evil 4. In May 2023, Sony confirmed wih the Playstation Showcase that it would be possible to play the entire game with PSVR 2, similar to Resident Evil Village, which is still one of the best gaming experiences for Playstation VR 2 (see our Resident Evil Village review).
Resident Evil 4 Remake: Even more intense in VR
The Resident Evil 4 Remake was released in the spring to critical acclaim. If you haven't played it yet, PSVR 2 will give you even more of a scare by taking immersion to the next level.
Instead of looking over Leon's shoulder, you'll experience the story from a first-person perspective, and instead of pressing buttons, you'll wield Leon's knife with your own hands. The same goes for the rest of the arsenal. Capcom's teaser from May shows how terrifying the game looks in VR.
We're curious to see if TGS attendees will get to play new scenes from the game and if Capcom will finally announce a release date. It is already known that the VR mode will be released as free DLC.
If you have a PC and a PC VR headset, you can already play Resident Evil 4 in VR thanks to mods. An optimized version from the PC VR modder Praydog, which could offer a first-person perspective and motion controls support, is in the works, but it's unclear when it will be released.
