PSVR 2 gets more game highlights including Another Fisherman's Tale
Sony's Playstation VR 2 gets more games like the brutal Hellsweeper VR, and a sequel to the puzzle hit A Fisherman's Tale.
The stream of new announcements for the Playstation VR 2 just doesn't stop. Shortly before the launch of the VR headset on February 22, 2023, the Playstation Blog revealed more games for Sony's VR headset. The lineup in the first month after launch now includes more than 40 titles.
Among the featured titles are well-known hits like the popular rhythm game Ragnarock as well as the new announcement Another Fisherman's Tale. Fans of hard action can look forward to Hellsweeper VR, which is already in the works for Quest 2 and PC VR. Gorn, which was recently leaked by Sony, has also been officially confirmed.
Here's an overview of the newly revealed VR games:
Another Fisherman's Tale
A Fisherman's Tale (review) created a unique VR puzzle game with clever perspective tricks. The sequel, with the simple name "Another Fisherman's Tale," also takes the players into a surreal world full of creative locations and tricky puzzles. The second VR adventure seems to focus even more on variety than its predecessor, which was promoted by the European TV channel Arte.
A central game element is the detachment and control of limbs, as the launch trailer shows. For example, a launched crab hand separates a board from a distant tree, which completes a bridge elsewhere. Harpoon hands allow players to reach even remote hills.
Diving excursions and controlling large robotic arms also play an important role in exploring the island of Libertalia. The game will be released "soon" for Playstation VR and SteamVR. In a tweet, the developer Innerspace reveals that it will still be ready in 2023.
Hellsweeper VR
Hellsweeper VR from Mixed Realms promises "the craziest tricks in VR." The game is said to feature wall-running, power-sliding, backflips, bullet time, and more. Waves of enemies come from all directions, and the gameplay seems pretty fast-paced.
Hellsweeper VR played pleasantly smooth and comfortably at Gamescom despite the high speed. After announcements for Meta Quest 2 and SteamVR, the implementation for PSVR 2 has now been confirmed. According to the Playstation blog, Hellsweeper VR will be released this year.
Ragnarock
A real insider favorite among VR rhythm games is the tricky Ragnarock. The rocking soundtrack on Viking ships, which is already available for Meta Quest, and PC VR headsets, could make you sweat profusely. With two hammers, you smash the approaching runes to the beat of the hard-rocking Viking music in order to immortalize yourself in the leaderboards.
In the PvP multiplayer mode, up to six players can compete against their friends in real-time. Ragnarock will be released on February 22, just in time for the launch of the PSVR 2.
Unplugged: Air Guitar
The rousing air guitar game Unplugged: Air Guitar (review) is known for its ingenious hand-tracking controls on the Meta Quest 2. As a rock star, you can play your virtual guitar without a controller if you wish. The cameras of the Quest 2 or Quest Pro capture the movements of your fingers while you trigger the appropriate chords on the virtual guitar neck.
A version for SteamVR uses the finger sensors of the Index controllers instead. It should be similar on the PSVR2, since the Sense controllers also have sensors for finger detection. Alternatively, a classic controller option should be on board here as well, which was retrofitted in the other versions.
More announcements for PSVR 2
Other announcements include the historical sword fighting game Swordsman VR by Sinn Studio (launch title, free upgrade for PSVR in the first three months) and the anime adventure Sushi Ben by Big Brane Studios (release: 2023). Also announced was the bow and arrow soccer game Nock: Bow + Arrow Soccer by Normal VR (release: March 2023).
Already announced for Playstation VR 2 are the motorcycle action game Runner by Truant Pixel and the cocktail mix adventure Startenders: Intergalactic Bartending by Yogscast. The Playstation blog now says that both will be launch titles. Startenders: Intergalactic Bartending will get a free upgrade for owners of the PSVR version.
The recently leaked PSVR 2 implementation of Free Lives' gladiator game Gorn will be released on March 16 - including all updates to the other versions.
Demos for PSVR 2 games
New owners of the Playstation VR 2 should be happy to know that they will be able to play a few titles on a trial basis. Sony has announced on the Playstation blog some of the titles that will receive a free demo. Among the titles available at launch are trial versions of Horizon Call of The Mountain (review), Resident Evil Village, and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge.
