We refrain from naming expected or anticipated titles. All titles on the list have official confirmation from Sony

The VR games below appear in alphabetical order. The confirmed launch titles appear first, then the VR games whose release date is not yet known or that will only be released after the launch of the Playstation VR 2 on February 22, 2023.

Launch titles

After The Fall

After The Fall is the spiritual successor to Arizona Sunshine, only bigger, better, more brutal – and with up to three friends. Left 4 Dead VR? No other VR game comes so close to the great PC role model in terms of gameplay.

The setting is a historically alternative Los Angeles of the year 2005. Humanity is badly shaken: A designer drug has turned a large part of the earth’s population into monsters, and a new ice age has begun.

There is no real campaign. Instead, you go on loot runs again and again. These are 20-minute battle missions with a final boss. As a reward, you get a resource that you can use to upgrade your weapons. This is indispensable if you want to survive in higher difficulty levels.

“The short missions prove to be a delightfully straightforward, action-packed snack in the first few hours,” Jan writes in his After the Fall review. “Although After the Fall still seems a bit unfinished here and there and offers noticeably too little meat, I’m already craving the next run. Even with strangers, I had a pleasing amount of fun with the simple but successful arcade concept.”

Cities VR – Enhanced Edition

The construction game Cities VR (review) originally appeared for Meta Quest 2 great potential and suffered from technical shortcomings and lazy VR design there. With the Enhanced Edition on Playstation VR 2, Fast Travel Games has a chance to do better.

Cosmonious High

Six years after Job Simulator, Owlchemy Labs brought Cosmonious High. You take on the role of a new student who attends the alien high school of the same name. The school has to deal with all sorts of technical malfunctions and it’s up to you to find their cause. In the process, you’ll meet bizarre alien characters and gradually unlock superpowers that will help you fix the defects.

Cosmonious High is the largest interactive VR playground developed by Owlchemy Labs to date. Using new gestures as well as emojis, you can interact with the characters and cast fire and ice with your hands thanks to your superpowers. The studio’s colorful graphic style and wry humor are back.

Demeo

Demeo ingeniously simulates tabletop game nights with friends. With up to three allies, you choose from a character class and move your character through dungeons full of treasures and monsters. In doing so, you can access an arsenal of unique abilities.

Only those who coordinate their actions and know the secrets of the enemies and classes will be able to master the challenging game. Thanks to regular updates of new adventures and classes, the game will keep fans entertained for a long time.

Resolution Games promises the PSVR2 version will have “tons of features that make it truly the best way to experience Demeo to date.”

These include the haptics of the Sense controllers, which make picked-up objects feel different weights. The studio also reworked the graphics to take advantage of the Playstation 5’s capabilities, with Resolution Games promising new shaders and a 120 hertz refresh rate.

Gran Turismo 7

At CES 2023, Sony announced that the racing game will get a VR mode for the launch of Playstation VR 2. Those who purchased the PS5 version of GT7 will receive the VR version as a free upgrade. It is not yet confirmed whether the entire game will be playable in VR.

Hello Neighbor: Search and Rescue

Hello Neighbor: Search and Rescue is the second VR adventure of the devilish sneaking game. Once again, you have to outsmart your neighbor Mr. Peterson and escape his clutches.

Series creator TinyBuild Games is cooperating with Steel Wool Studios (Five Nights at Freddy’s) for the new VR game.

You’ll have to return to the neighbor’s house again and again to take on the roles of six young heroes from the neighborhood. Together, they will face their fears to free their friend, who is being held captive in a bizarre basement prison.

You’ll have to learn each of their abilities to solve puzzles, uncover secrets and escape safely from the neighbor’s house.

Horizon Call of the Mountain

In Call of the Mountain, you’ll be completely immersed in the Horizon universe for the first time. The new adventure is experienced through the eyes of Ryas, a former Shadow Carja warrior.

Ryas is a masterful climber and archer. In his role, you’ll climb mountains and take down formidable machines such as the Thunder Jaw.

During your journey, you’ll master various tools and weapons, and use materials you find to craft additional equipment. Along the way you’ll meet new and old Horizon characters, including Aloy herself.

Apart from the main story, Call of the Mountain offers an immersive river journey, in which you’ll get to see an impressive panorama of the game world. Sony praises this virtual reality experience as the perfect introduction to Playstation VR 2.

Horizon Call of the Mountain, unlike its two 2D predecessors, is not an open-world game and cleverly guides you through the story, which will keep you entertained for about seven hours.

Moss 1 & 2

Part 1 is already one of the best VR games to date and has sold over a million copies. And rightly so: Controlling the little mouse wanderer Quill through a pretty diorama landscape, solving puzzles and defeating enemies with her is tremendous fun and creates an emotional relationship between player and protagonist.

The second book continues the adventure seamlessly and goes one better in terms of gameplay and design.

“Even if you’re not that into the genre, the detail, animation, and excellent VR craftsmanship show you what else is possible with virtual reality. The backdrops are real eye-openers and invite you to marvel again and again,” writes Ben in his Moss 2 review.

Both games will be significantly enhanced for Playstation VR 2. The following trailer shows the PSVR1 version of Moss 2.

No Man’s Sky

The VR version of No Man’s Sky was released in summer 2019 for Playstation VR and PC VR and featured extensive VR customizations.

“To experience No Man’s Sky in PS VR was a minor miracle, such was the technical challenge we faced bringing an infinite seamless universe into the futuristic headset,” wrote studio head Sean Murray when announcing the PSVR 2 version. “Several years later, the technology has taken another major leap forward such that, now, we have the opportunity to immerse the player to a whole new level.”

Hello Games plans to reveal further details on the PSVR2 version’s improvements in the coming months. At launch on February 22, there will be a free upgrade for owners of the PSVR version.

Pistol Whip

The rhythm action in Pistol Whip offers a wild mix of Beat Saber, Superhot and Rez that will have you sweating quickly.

Since its release in 2019, VR veteran Cloudhead Games has been regularly supplying the game with new musical-psychedelic scenarios.

The PSVR2 version will be available as a free upgrade for owners of the original PSVR version.

Puzzling Places

The relaxed spatial photo puzzle game Puzzling Places benefits from sharper textures, 120 Hz, higher rendering resolution, and gaze capture for simplified piece selection, according to Realities.io on PSVR 2. Other benefits include haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, support for a “free in space” mode (puzzles in a larger play area), and a free PSVR2 puzzle with 1,000 pieces.

Puzzling Places for PSVR 2 will be released on February 22 and available on the PS Store. It is also available as a free upgrade for all current PSVR owners.

Resident Evil Village

The VR version of Resident Evil 7 is one of the best games ever for Playstation VR and Virtual Reality, and was proven to terrify more than a million people.

With Resident Evil Village, Capcom should succeed in doing the same for Playstation VR 2. This could work because the sequel is supposed to step it up a notch in all areas – thanks to the graphics power of the PS5, unique technical features of Playstation VR 2 and a lot of detail work on the part of Capcom.

Unlike the predecessor, Resident Evil Village is played with VR controllers, which allows free hand movements and handling of two weapons at the same time. This will make the game feel even more realistic.

The haptic feedback of the headset will also contribute to the immersion. For example, the VR headset vibrates when Lady Dimitrescu’s daughters drag you across the floor. The haptic effect is supposed to increase the realism and curb motion sickness.

A rendering technique made possible by Playstation VR’s eye-tracking called foveated render ing allows for a sharp and detailed representation of the environment. Together with Horizon Call of the Mountain, Resident Evil Village should set new standards in VR graphics.

Rez Infinite

Back in 2001 on Sega’s Dreamcast console, Tetsuya Mizuguchi’s Rez was a psychedelic, musical rush shooter. Meanwhile, the VR versions of Monstars Inc. and Resonair are the most beautiful way into the colorful flashing techno world, including a new VR level. Rez Infinite has won numerous awards.

On the PSVR 2, there’s gaze tracking (you can follow and target enemies with your gaze), and haptic feedback in the controllers and headset starting February 22. Rez Infinite is also playable in standard TV mode on PS5. Owners of the original PS4/PSVR game can upgrade to PS5/PSVR 2 for $9.99.

Song in the Smoke

The survival game with a prehistoric setting was one of the best VR games in 2021. On February 22, 2023, it will be released in a heavily graphically remastered version for PSVR 2, which is expected to outshine even the PC VR version.

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge

Take on the role of a droid technician who crash-lands on the planet Batuu and gets involved in a dangerous adventure in search of a valuable artifact. In the process, meet familiar characters such as C-3PO and R2-D2. The center of the VR game is the cantina of the spirited bartender Seezelslak, who takes you to other places and times in the Star Wars galaxy with his titular stories.

Star Wars: TFTGE was originally released in two parts for Meta Quest 2, and the Enhanced Edition combines both parts and features upgraded graphics. The announcement trailer shows sharper textures, more details, and nicer lighting. In my review of Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, I attested to the game’s authentic and immersive Star Wars atmosphere with solid shooter gameplay.

Other highlights of the Enhanced Edition include eye-tracking support, 3D audio, and special haptic effects. “By combining all the sensory features the PSVR2 has to offer, you will feel like you are living in the Star Wars galaxy,” ILMxLAB promises.

Tentacular

In Tentacular from developer Firepunchd and indie publisher Devolver Digital, you rage as a clumsy tentacle monster over an idyllic island community. Especially fans of chaotic, lovingly staged physics puzzles will get their money’s worth here, also thanks to the quaint English dubbing.

The Dark Pictures: Switchback

The Dark Pictures: Switchback could turn out to be a real fan favorite. At the launch of Sony’s first VR headset, Supermassive Games contributed Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, an amazingly creepy horror game, to the lineup. Since then, early PSVR fans have been raving about the unrivaled nasty scares that featured undead, killer clowns, and hung pig halves terrorizing passengers.

The Dark Pictures: Switchback follows the same path and already confronts those interested with all kinds of eerily beautiful disfigured creatures in the trailer. Of course, they should look even more beautiful on the Playstation VR 2. As the name suggests, characters and scenarios from the “Dark Pictures Anthology” games make an appearance here.

Along the way, gamers must survive the terrifying Ghost Ship, face demonic incarnations of persecuted “witches” from 17th-century New England, and battle supernatural desert vampires. Finally, they escape on wheels from the World’s Fair Hotel from a sadistic serial killer.

Haptic feedback makes bends and jolts palpable, and the adaptive triggers engage at a different position for each weapon – matching the trigger. If the evasive maneuver before the collapsing beam doesn’t succeed, the rumble effect of the headset provides blows to the head.

The use of eye tracking sounds even meaner: some enemies only move when you blink. The spatial audio capabilities of the PSVR 2 should also make the ride more terrifying over various turnoffs.

The Light Brigade

Funktronic Labs’ roguelike shooter The Light Brigade also has the potential for plenty of sinister atmosphere on the PSVR 2. The same team’s inspiring VR game Fujii was already a feast for the senses. With its creative ideas, it was difficult to pigeonhole it into a genre in the review.

The Light Brigade is also mysterious, but its roguelike action is easier to categorize. In a world full of debris, you become the last line of defense against the darkness. As part of the Light Brigade, you repeatedly travel to the generated battlefields of the sunken world.

Strategically make your way through icy graveyards in the densely forested mountain world, while enemies feel your bullets and light magic. Climb the ranks, unlocking new spells and weapons. According to Sony, the latter benefit from physics-based shooting mechanics.

Rescued comrades-in-arms help with the expansion of the temple headquarters and unlock new stores and classes.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution

The predecessor was one of the best VR games ever. The sequel follows the story of the first part but is also a standalone VR game.

The journey once again takes you to a zombie-ravaged New Orleans. The studio promises a new story campaign, new areas to explore, new weapons and tools, and new gameplay mechanics. Your antagonist is the Axe Man, a mysterious, post-apocalyptic slasher whose actions and intrigues keep you constantly on your toes throughout the campaign.

The new arsenal will not merely consist of variants of familiar weapons but also introduces new and unique combat techniques. Among the new additions are the silencer, new weapons such as the submachine gun and the sawed-off shotgun, and a chainsaw. Ben played the PC VR version of Saints & Sinners 2 at Gamescom 2022 and found it “bloody good.”

The VR game will be released on March 21, 2023, and a slightly more expensive Deluxe Edition will include the great first game.

Zenith: The Last City

The VR MMORPG Zenith: The Last City promised many hours of gameplay and long-term motivation in a fantasy setting. Nier: Automata, Final Fantasy and Sword Art Online serve as models.

Exploring the open world confronts players with floating islands, futuristic cities and archaic monsters.

VR games from Japan

On December 15, 2022, Sony announced the following six VR games from Japan:

  • Fantavision 202X (launch title)
  • Altair Breaker (launch title)
  • The Tale of Onogoro (launch title).
  • Kizuna AI – Touch the Beat! (Launch title)
  • Dyschronia: Chronos Alternate (Launch title)
  • X8 (First quarter 2023)

You can learn more about these titles on the US Playstation Blog.

PSVR2 games coming later

Among Us VR

In Among Us, you slip into the roles of crew members who have to bring a defective spaceship back to shape. This wouldn’t be a problem if there weren’t traitors among the crew who want to sabotage the work and assassinate the remaining crew members from behind. They win by finding and turning in the impostors or getting the spaceship ready for takeoff despite all obstacles.

The VR version was developed by the renowned VR studio Schell Games (I Expect You To Die 1 & 2, Until You Fall) and is a standalone version of the game that you play in 3D and from the first-person perspective.

Beat Saber

The most successful VR game ever was already available for the first Playstation VR. At CES 2023, Sony announced a PSVR2 version of the rhythm game. More details are to follow shortly.

Before Your Eyes

The eye-tracking adventure Before Your Eyes offers a most interesting concept. The adventure is a picturesquely implemented memory journey on the way to the afterlife controlled from the first-person perspective with the player’s own blinking.

In the 2D Steam version, this works with a webcam in front of the monitor. With the Playstation VR 2, on the other hand, the eye tracking integrated into the VR headset captures the eye movements. It is unclear how much the control will be revised, because Sony’s eye tracking would offer significantly more possibilities than the original webcam eye tracking.

“You will learn to control the flow of the narrative with your actual eyes,” explains Lucas Jozefowicz of Skybound Games. “Blinking through precious memories of family, first love, and the rise of an artistic career, ultimately revealing a heartbreaking truth.” Before Your Eyes will be released on March 10, 2023 for PSVR 2.

Behemoth

Behemoth is one of the most talked about VR games of 2023, developed by Skydance Interactive, the studio behind The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, which is considered one of the best and most successful VR games and is also coming to Playstation VR 2.

The title is a mix of story-heavy VR action RPG and survival game set in a merciless world. You take on the role of a lone wanderer who roams a doomed empire, climbing, fighting and defeating giant colossi, the titular Behemoths.

The VR game will be released at the end of 2023.

Creed: Rise to Glory – Championship Edition

Creed: Rise to Glory has been released for various VR platforms since 2018. The elaborate graphical realization and the physically demanding fights made the boxing game stand out from the competition. Survios and MGM added new game content, modes, and settings for personalization on the PSVR 2.

Championship Edition players will also be able to put their skills to the test in a revamped online PvP mode with optimized player search across platforms ahead of the theatrical release of Creed III, which is scheduled to launch in this country on March 2, 2023. The release year for the PSVR2 version is set for 2023.

Crossfire: Sierra Squad

The South Korean shooter series Crossfire is mainly popular in Asia. With Crossfire: Sierra Squad, manufacturer Smilegate is bringing a spin-off for PSVR 2, which will be released in 2023. Familiar characters, maps and movements from the series will also appear in the new VR game.

As the leader of an elite strike team, you’ll take part in a war over a secret biochemical weapon. Over 60 campaign missions revolve around action-packed paramilitary battles between rival factions Black List and Global Risk.

The 17 enemy types with advanced AI can be blasted out of the way with even more immersion thanks to the haptics features of the new Sense controllers, according to the promise. Heavy guns, helicopters and persistent boss fights are also included.

Among the 39 weapon types, including grenades, could be modern specimens controlled by eye-tracking. The announcement doesn’t explicitly mention the feature, but it talks about “sniper rifles with revolutionary sighting mechanics”.

In co-op rounds with up to four players, hand signals from the motion controllers are supposed to play an important role in silent communication. Also planned are an arcade mode, a realism mode, and a hardcore horde mode. Competitive multiplayer matches like in Firewall Ultra are not planned. Ambitious natures can compete in worldwide leaderboards, though.

Firewall Ultra

Firewall Ultra is Rainbow Six Siege for virtual reality. Its predecessor Firewall Zero Hour, which was also released exclusively for Playstation VR and enjoys great popularity on this platform, is one of the best tactical shooters that virtual reality has to offer.

Firewall Ultra once again centers around the Contracts mode, in which a team of four mercenaries must try to hack a laptop while the opposing team must prevent this from happening. What’s new is that the matches take place in rounds of three and, for the first time, on dedicated servers, so there should be no more lags. Furthermore, the studio promises a “completely new PvE experience” against computer opponents.

Firewall Ultra will feature new maps and clients, and old content will be completely overhauled, including new areas, textures, and character models.

The VR game is expected to benefit from the strengths of Playstation VR 2. For example, you’ll be able to select weapons and HUD elements via eye control, and each weapon should feel different when fired.

Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord

In the VR game developed by nDreams and Sony Pictures Virtual Reality, you go on a ghost hunt alone or with up to three fellow players.

In the story campaign, you are given the task of building a new Ghostbusters headquarters in San Francisco.

A trailer shows how you can track down ghosts with the PKE meter, banish them with proton beams and set up ghost traps. The eponymous chief villain can also be seen briefly at the end.

Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord will be released for Meta Quest 2 and Playstation VR 2 in 2023. It remains to be seen whether the PSVR2 version will offer more graphics.

Jurassic World Aftermath

In the stealth game Jurassic World Aftermath, you take on the role of a hacker named Sam who is on his way to the infamous dinosaur island of Isla Nublar.

Your mission: recover valuable research from the ruins of the park and avoid getting eaten as much as possible.

NFL Pro Era

In NFL Pro Era, game players become the top quarterback on NFL teams, in a fully licensed NFL and NFLPA game. The use of real-time game data is intended to bring the necessary authenticity.

“Step under center and see if you have what it takes to lead your team to a Super Bowl or play virtual catch with friends in your favorite stadium,” explains Andrew Hawkins, co-founder and president of StatusPRO. A free upgrade from the PSVR version is planned. The release date is between February 22 and March 22, 2023.

Resident Evil 4 (VR Content)

Sony unveiled the PS5 remake at the State of Play in June 2022. In the video stream trailer, it was thrown in that VR content for Resident Evil 4 is in development. The wording suggests that, unlike Resident Evil Village, the remake will not be fully playable in VR. The trailer released after the show curiously no longer shows the hint.

Synth Riders: Remastered Edition.

The PSVR2 version of Synth Riders, the rhythm game that glows in neon colors, gets remastered graphics. Kluge Interactive also promises more nuanced controller haptics as you glide along the rails, headset feedback for in-game obstacle feedback, smooth performance, and SSD optimization for short load times.

So all in all, the musical fun should feel more immersive and seamless. The revamped version will be available as a free upgrade to all owners of a PSVR version of Synth Riders, including any music DLC purchases already made. The release date is between February 22 and March 22, 2023.

Tetris Effect: Connected

Just over four years after the release of Tetris Effect: Connected on PS4 and PSVR, Enhance’s puzzle game is coming to PS5 and PSVR2 on Feb. 22. “With eye-tracking enabled, you can dive into the zone by closing and then opening your eyes.” Haptic effects are also said to greatly enhance the experience.

The title is playable without a PSVR2 headset on PS5. Owners of the original game for PS4/PSVR can upgrade to PS5/PSVR 2 for $9.99. The release date is between February 22 and March 22, 2023.

The Last Clockwinder

In this VR game, you clone yourself. Again and again. And build wondrous machines from your clones. Find out how well this works on other VR systems in our review of The Last Clockwinder. Not too much seems to change on the Playstation VR 2, since the official description only explains the storyline.

It says: “You play as Jules, a young woman on a mission to repair the Clocktower (…) Create an interconnected system of clones to grow plants, harvest resources, and synthesize new seeds. You can coordinate your clones to create marvels of precision teamwork, hare-brained Rube Goldberg machines, or a troupe of synchronized dancers.”

Thumper

Thumper marks the return of an arcade oldie that appeared at the launch of the first PSVR. As a metallic beetle, you hurtle through psychedelic landscapes at lightning speed, dodging obstacles with careful timing and simple controls.

On PlayStation VR2, improvements in resolution, 3D audio, and haptic feedback are expected to make the title more immersive. In addition, Marc Flury of developer Drool hints at a possible planned sequel, saying, “Thumper will leave bruises and whet appetites for more.” A PSVR2 date is still unclear.

What The Bat?

What the Bat? is playable slapstick from the creators of the similarly whimsical What the Golf? – a comedy sports simulation of sorts. “Through a series of increasingly absurd mini-games, you must live the life of a modern-day batswoman” from a first-person perspective in What the Bat?

This includes shooting, cooking, smashing, swinging, parking, painting, pickling, and petting a dog. For now, developer studio Triband isn’t mentioning any new features compared to the originals for SteamVR or Meta Quest. The release date is between February 22 and March 22, 2023.
