Vision Pro: Analyst estimates initial sales of up to 180,000 units

Pre-orders for Vision Pro began on Friday, and supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that Apple sold 160,000 to 180,000 headsets over the weekend. Kuo previously estimated that Apple had 60,000 to 80,000 units available for the launch, which sold out shortly after the launch. The remaining Vision Pros would not be delivered until five to seven weeks later.

While the instant sold-out and extended shipping times seem positive at first, there is cause for concern, Kuo writes. Shipping times have remained unchanged 48 hours after pre-orders began. This suggests that demand could drop off quickly after the core fans and heavy users have placed their orders, Kuo adds.

Apple Vision Pro pre-orders are starting today

Apple Vision Pro will launch on February 2, but US customers can pre-order the device from today, starting at 8AM ET. A newer iPhone or iPad is required for a Face ID scan of the face to determine the right light seal and headband, the latest version of the Apple Store app and your vision prescription (if necessary). The Verge has summarized the most important information about the pre-order process.

The pre-order launch will give Apple an initial idea of consumer demand for the device. According to a report, only around 70,000 devices will be available at launch.
