Electronica-DJ Aphex Twin releases AR app with music from his EP
DJ Aphex Twin has released an augmented reality app called YXBoZXh0d2lu that interactively visualizes his new EP "Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / in a room7 F760" with 3D objects. Users scan the physical packaging to unlock various AR experiences based on individual tracks. The app is available for free for iOS and Android and was developed in collaboration with Studio KALKUL, Weirdcore and Warp Records.
Beem brings AR hologram calls to Snapdragon Spaces
AR communications platform Beem has integrated its hologram telepresence solution with the Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform. The collaboration with Qualcomm and T-Mobile US enables 5G hologram calls on all devices optimized for Snapdragon Spaces, including the Lenovo Think Reality A3. A premium option for business use is also available.
Hand tracking added to AR toolkit from Niantic and 8th Wall
Niantic and 8th Wall have added hand tracking to the 8th Wall AR Developer Toolkit. This allows developers to create AR applications that respond to hand and wrist movements. The new tools provide a dedicated hand model with 36 attachment points that conform to the user's shape. Real-time APIs can be used to integrate textures or video from the web.
Snapchat delivers augmented reality extras for Alicia Keys concerts
Alicia Keys is partnering with Snapchat to bring augmented reality to her live concerts. Fans can scan album art to unlock a new AR filter and hidden messages. They can also scan tour artwork at select locations in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York at select times to unlock an Alicia Keys avatar.
