Magic Leap 2 launches in September with enterprise pricing

Magic Leap 2 is meant to compete with Microsoft's Hololens 2 in the enterprise AR market. We summarize the most important information for you.

In August 2018, the company's first AR headset, the Magic Leap 1 (then still called Magic Leap One: Creator's Edition), was released in the US.

Magic Leap targeted end-users with the product. Too early, as it turned out: The device was not attractive enough for consumers in terms of hardware, software, and form factor, and it also cost over $2,000.

A new focus on enterprise customers came too late: In the spring of 2020, Magic Leap narrowly avoided bankruptcy and laid off many employees. Founder and CEO Rony Abovitz left the company. Former Microsoft manager Peggy Johnson succeeded him, restructured Magic Leap and completed the turn to B2B that had been started.

Magic Leap 2, which will be released in 2022, is the first product that is explicitly aimed at professional users and companies.

What makes Magic Leap 2 special?

Magic Leap 2 has the largest field of view yet for AR headsets in its class, at 70 degrees. Compared to Magic Leap 1, the field of view has been expanded, especially in the vertical direction. The field of view of Magic Leap 1 and Hololens 2 is about the same.
