Sony launches Playstation VR 2 early 2023
Sony narrows down the release period of the Playstation VR 2. Unfortunately, the next-gen headset misses the holiday season.
The rumors about a launch in 2023 have come true: Sony confirmed via Instagram and Twitter that the Playstation VR 2 will not be released until 2023, or more precisely: early 2023.
Thus, Sony once again leaves the holiday shopping season to Meta Quest 2 and the new Pico headsets, which will allegedly be launched in September. Apple is also not expected to launch before 2023.

Why not 2022?
Releasing a major Playstation device in the spring is quite unusual for Sony. But it is also unusual timing considering the ongoing supply chain issues.
Sony may not have been able to produce enough units until the holiday shopping season, or the company may want to satisfy the demand for the PS5 first before launching an expensive accessory for the console.
Another possible reason for the launch next year could be the game lineup. Sony wants to offer more than 20 VR games at launch, but only a handful of launch titles have been announced so far. So, the studios would have a bit more time to prepare their games for the launch.
Playstation VR 2: The price remains a secret
Sony did not reveal anything new about the VR headset itself. After the presentation of the headset design, the release of the specifications, and a preview of the hardware features, only the price remains to be revealed.
Sony charged around $400 for the first Playstation VR, which was launched in October 2016. It is expected that the Playstation VR 2 will not be cheaper, but rather more expensive, as it uses more advanced technologies than the original, including an HDR display, eye tracking, and headset feedback. The Playstation VR 2 will be the first consumer VR headset to support these technologies.
Add to that inflation and rising manufacturing costs: Meta raised the price of the two-year-old Meta Quest 2 because of it, and Sony could be forced to subsidize Playstation VR 2 aggressively to reach consumers.
