Walkabout Mini Golf added 36 holes on Planet Xylodon and experimental Quest hand tracking

Mighty Coconut released Escape from Planet Xylodon for Walkabout Mini Golf on October 8, a 36-hole course at $4.99 in the US, and the same update switched on hand tracking for Quest players. The studio calls it "Experimental Hand Tracking" and warns that "bugs/issues may occur when implementing this setting", in an announcement posted at 16:05 UTC on October 8.

"Hand tracking has come to Walkabout Mini Golf for our Quest users," the post says. It arrives switched off: a player turns it on in the in-game Settings, in the Options tab, and runs a tutorial first, and hand tracking also has to be enabled in the headset's own settings.

Mulligans arrive as a course option

The update also lets a player take a putt back. Mighty Coconut says the number of mulligans per player is set in the course options when picking a course, or as a modifier in the expanded scorecard, and that a player activates one from the wrist display after putting.

The course runs 36 holes with 18 lost balls

Planet Xylodon keeps the studio's standard shape: 36 holes split into 18 Easy and 18 Hard, 18 lost balls to find and a collectible putter. It also brings two new avatar heads, five sci-fi options for the base head and a limited-time Planet Xylodon takeover of the Welcome Island.

A promo code system is new as well, with codes redeemed in-game for cosmetics. The first went out in the studio's newsletter as a Mail Trail ball trail.

Private room hosts also get moderation they did not have. Kicking a player now bars them from re-entry, and blocking one bars them from any of that host's private rooms.

Index controllers still fight the grip system

Mighty Coconut lists one known issue, in its own words: "The Grip-to-Puppet is still a bit finnicky on SteamVR depending on the controller you're using (such as the Steam Index controller)." The patch does fix SteamVR custom grip calibration failing to save, a delay between holes 8 and 9 in Gloop Lair, and broken text in Chinese and other Asian languages in the Shack.

Other fixes cover players abandoned in a Quick Match, who Mighty Coconut says are not penalised for leaving an empty room, the Rejoin Round prompt after a short network failure, and voice chat dropping mid-round. The Tuxedo avatar outfit now comes in eight colours.

The update is version 6.8, and Mighty Coconut says players need it for multiplayer to keep working: build 6.8-58568 on Quest, Rift, Steam, Pico and Galaxy XR, and 6.8-58641_01.77-2 on PS VR2. Cross-play between the iOS Pocket Edition and the VR versions has ended, and the studio says that app stays on version 6.3.

On Steam the course costs $4.99 in the US, on top of a $24.99 base game.
