VR sci-fi hopeful Rager also coming to Playstation VR 2

With Rager, small studio Insane Prey has a VR sci-fi game with potential in the pipeline. It is now official that the game is coming to PSVR 2.

FACTS

The VR action rhythm game Rager will also be released for the Playstation VR 2. Adam Juva from developer studio Insane Prey confirmed to MIXED that Sony accepted the pitch for Rager. A possible release date could be the second quarter of 2025. "The date is not set yet and could be sooner or later. A lot will depend on how the release on Meta Quest and Steam goes," said Juva.

Rager is currently available as a demo in the Meta Quest App Lab and on Steam. The demo will receive a final update next week at the latest, which will improve visuals and game mechanics. In particular, the validation of when a hit is successful and when it is not will be optimized.

After that, it's back to the development of the full version. "I have prepared almost all the development tools in advance so that we can implement additional levels and game modes much faster," Juva explains. The Early Access version for Meta Quest 3, Quest 2 and Quest Pro as well as PC VR via Steam is planned for May.

CONTEXT

VR rhythm hopeful between Beat Saber and Pistol Whip

With its dark sci-fi setting and onrushing enemies, Rager is a fresh take on the VR rhythm genre, somewhere between Beat Saber and Pistol Whip. Instead of fighting approaching objects, you fight robots that attack to the rhythm of electro beats.

The game takes place in a dark, dystopian sci-fi arena reminiscent of the Tron setting. You are armed with swords or maces and have to use them precisely to dodge or hit the attacking enemies at the right time.

In the demo version, there are currently two difficulty levels where the challenge increases significantly. The full version will offer even more difficulty levels and arenas. Read my hands-on with Rager to find out how it all works.
