At the Laval Virtual conference in France, Pico Interactive unveiled the Pico G3, the successor to the Pico G2. The standalone VR headset is aimed at businesses in industries such as education, healthcare, training and marketing.

The Pico G3 features the Snapdragon XR2 processor, 128GB of storage, and 6GB of RAM for faster computing and a smoother VR experience. The headset has a 4K resolution display and a 5300 mAh battery for several hours of operation.

The Pico G3 is priced at €399 and will be available for pre-order from April 12th. Shipping will begin in early May. The new VR headset looks very similar to the Pico Neo 3 Pro.

Pico G3 with business features

Oliver Wöhler, Enterprise Lead for EMEA, emphasizes the importance of the Pico G3 for businesses: "Our mission at Pico Business is to provide companies with the tools they need to grow their business, create new opportunities and achieve their goals."

The Pico Business Suite is integrated into the Pico G3, providing advanced customization capabilities as well as access to the Pico Business Store, a content partner ecosystem and support from local sales teams.

Interestingly, the G3 is not technically up to date, returning to the long forgotten "3DoF". Despite its own Pico 4 6DoF headset, which also offers a much more attractive form factor, Pico has opted for a 3DoF headset that is just as expensive as the Pico 4.

The enterprise version of the Pico 4 costs more than $1,000. The focus of the G3 is also on the enterprise market and the specific requirements of companies, especially in terms of security features and customization options. Price may be the deciding factor here, as the Pico 4 is likely to be subsidized for consumers to achieve the low price.

For specific business needs

Another reason for choosing 3DoF could be the frequent use of Pico's G-Series in kiosk mode for one-off applications such as demonstrations or trade shows. Here, ease of use and fast content delivery are important.

Oliver Wöhler says: "The G3 offers businesses a more powerful headset via a secure and trusted platform with world-class support, allowing them to realize their potential at an affordable price with a next-generation headset."

It's not a next-generation headset, of course, though it could address specific needs in the enterprise market and therefore be an improved alternative to the aging Pico G2.
