Steam beta fixes missing achievement counts and makes completed sets easier to find in your library
Valve is refining Steam's new Achievement Sets, and a November 3 client beta addresses a problem that could leave some unlocked achievements out of a player's total. The update also changes how completed sets appear when sorting the library by achievement completion.
The changes are part of the November 3 Steam client preview, not a confirmed release to every Steam user. Valve says it has fixed an achievement-page rarity threshold and changed the achievements button in the play bar so it opens the achievements panel.
There is a separate fix for Steam windows that could briefly flash black. Valve also lists a Steam Controller firmware adjustment that reduces thumbstick touch sensitivity to make premature touch detection less likely. Its notes do not say that every controller or Steam Deck thumbstick receives that firmware change.

Completion tracking gets another pass
Achievement Sets are Valve's way of letting developers group related achievements within a game. A studio can separate a base game from downloadable content, or organize objectives by game mode or character. The feature is still being tested, and a game's developer needs to set up its groups.
That distinction matters for players who like to finish everything in a game. Previously, newly added achievements could change the overall completion picture after a player had already reached 100%. Valve's original announcement explains that completed sets remain completed when new sets are added, and that seasonal or unobtainable achievements can be archived.
The November beta does not introduce Achievement Sets for the first time. It adjusts how the feature behaves: completed sets now show up when the library is sorted by achievement completion, and Valve says it has corrected cases in which the total failed to count achievements that had already been unlocked. The release notes do not quantify how many games or players were affected.
The play-bar change should also make the relevant panel easier to reach. Valve has not provided before-and-after screenshots for every change in this update, so players should check how the revised interface behaves in the beta rather than assume every game will display identical groupings.

The preview is optional
Steam's desktop beta can be enabled under Steam > Settings > Interface > Client Beta Participation. Choose the Steam Beta Update and restart the client when prompted. The preview can include unfinished changes and bugs; players who prefer the public client can remain on the stable channel.
The beta is a client update, not a new SteamOS version. The mention of a controller firmware fix is likewise separate from the achievement display fixes. Valve has not given a date for these particular changes to reach the stable client.
If your totals have looked wrong, it may be worth checking the beta's notes, but Valve does not promise that this update fixes every achievement issue. A game's own achievement setup and support for sets can still affect what appears in the library.
