The VR mode allows you to play Resident Evil 4 from start to finish with Playstation VR 2 and experience Capcoms acclaimed remake through the eyes of Leon S. Kennedy for the first time. As with the Resident Evil Village VR Mode, Capcom has made additional adjustments to ensure the most immersive VR experience possible. More on that in a moment.

At State of Play, Capcom announced that the VR mode will be released as free DLC this winter and presented a new gameplay trailer.

The "Separate Ways" DLC announced for Resident Evil 4, as well as a free update for the game mode "The Mercenaries" (both coming on September 21) are not coming for the VR mode, which is limited to Resident Evil 4's story mode.

VR mode gets more immersive weapon handling

The VR mode is being developed by the same team who created the VR modes for Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village. On the PlayStation Blog, Capcom explains how the weapon handling and haptics have been adapted for virtual reality.

"From the way the weapons are held and reloaded, to the easy-to-understand input and haptic feedback of the Sense controllers, players will be able to feel each unique characteristic of the handguns, submachine guns, rifles, knives, and more. Experience immersion and the weapons in the game as if you were actually Leon on his mission of rescue and survival."

You can also parry with the knife by swinging it down or smash crates and boxes containing items. The new gameplay trailer gives a taste of these and other VR adjustments.

Resident Evil 4 is currently available on the Playstation Store at a reduced price, costing $40 instead of $70.

If you have a Meta Quest 2 instead of a Playstation VR 2, you can play the VR port of the original 2005 game, which is one of the best Meta Quest titles available.
