The Planet Crafter is heading to a storm-ravaged new world, and friends can join with one copy

The Planet Crafter is getting another world to terraform, and this one has a serious magnetic storm problem. Miju Games has announced Magnetaris, a new paid planet arriving on December 8 with unusual biomes, abandoned settlements and technology designed to help players survive the planet’s magnetism.

The expansion will cost $9.99, and the developer says only one person needs to own it to host a multiplayer game with friends. Players can start a new save on Magnetaris or travel there from an existing save after finishing their first planet.

Magnetaris joins a game built around turning hostile environments into habitable worlds. Its new setting brings its own mystery: people once lived there, but left for reasons players will have to uncover.

A planet shaped by magnetic storms

According to Miju’s announcement, magnetic storms and anomalies are scattered across the planet. Players will need new technologies to stabilize and protect themselves from its magnetism before they can complete the familiar job of transforming it into a lush environment.

The studio is also promising new biomes, secrets and lore. It has not detailed every hazard or upgrade yet, so the precise effect of the storms on exploring and building is still unclear.

Miju says Magnetaris has a map similar in size to its Toxicity planet and should provide multiple hours of content. That comparison gives returning players a rough idea of the scale, though the time any group spends there will depend on how they play.

What existing players and co-op groups need to know

The option to reach the new world from an existing save comes with a condition: players must have finished their first planet. Starting a fresh game directly on Magnetaris is the alternative, and Miju says it designed the planet with both routes in mind.

The $9.99 expansion is planned for every platform on which The Planet Crafter is available. The one-copy hosting arrangement is especially useful for a group already playing together: the host buys the DLC, and friends can join that hosted game without each buying a separate copy.

Playtests are open ahead of release. The Steam page is also live for players who want to wishlist the planet before launch.
