Pixel Ripped 1978 is a love letter to video game nostalgics. The VR game teleports you into real Atari classics.
Retro adventures from developer Arvore, such as Pixel Ripped 1995, so far only revolved around fantasy titles from bygone days of video games. The freshly announced Pixel Ripped 1978 takes you into a real video game giant's past for the first time. Atari is not only the subject of the VR game but also acts as the publisher.
You play as Atari developer Barbara. Her VCS console games suffer from numerous bugs, so she simply builds herself a tech glove that transports her into the glowing computer world like in the movie Tron. This way, she can go bug hunting directly in her projects, which appear as pixelated 3D worlds.

Fixing buggy program code involves motion control, combat, and first-person shooter sequences. Barbara's freely explorable 1978 workplace is modeled after the legendary Atari office in Sunnyvale.
Numerous quotes and characters from arcade oldies like Crystal Castles, Fast Freddie, or Yars' Revenge appear in the virtual world. Pixel Ripped 1978 comes out in the summer of 2023 for Playstation VR 2, Meta Quest 2, and in flat versions for PlayStation 5 and PC. No word yet on a PC VR version.
