Meta Quest Gaming Showcase in June: Will we finally get AAA VR games?
The Meta Quest Gaming Showcase 2023 has a date. Will Meta's studio acquisitions finally deliver more AAA VR games for the Quest platform?
On Thursday, June 1, 2023, the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase will kick off for the third time. Starting at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, the company will show what role VR games will play in the future for the Quest 2, Quest Pro, and Quest 3, which is still planned for 2023.
The 40-minute show will revolve around game announcements, gameplay premieres, and updates to existing games. The stream will be available to watch on Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and Horizon Worlds. Meta promises the most comprehensive presentation of gaming content in the event's history to date in the Quest blog. It will once again be hosted by Ruth Bram, executive producer of Oculus Studios.
Quest 2: VR games in the Gaming Showcase
This time, there's a pre-show at 9:45 a.m. PT with game updates and debut trailers. A developer roundtable is also planned after the Meta Gaming Showcase to dive deeper into the featured titles. Meta is not yet revealing details about the planned titles; the "Save the Date" trailer only shows a helmet lying in a sandstorm with the ominous silhouette of a giant creature on the horizon.
After a disappointing event last year, this is Meta's chance to reveal AAA titles in the works after acquiring nine studios. Especially after the launch of Playstation VR 2 and headlines about layoffs at Meta's game studios, the Facebook company needs more VR games to achieve high return rates and long usage times.
We may finally get to see scenes from Rockstar's VR adaptation of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which was previously announced at Facebook Connect 2021. A hot candidate for a presentation would also be Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Nexus, which was announced in 2020.
Skydance's Behemoth could also make a prominent appearance, after The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners 2 appeared first on Quest.
