The FCC tests electronic devices for compliance with wireless technology standards. Products must receive FCC approval before they can launch on the U.S. market. When FCC documents show that a product has received approval, it is often an indication that a product launch is imminent.

As UploadVR reports, both the Meta Quest 3 and its new ringless Touch Plus controller have now received FCC approval. While the Quest 3's FCC filing doesn't mention the product's name, the headset's strap arm is clearly depicted in one of the documents.

The headset supports Wi-Fi 6E

The documents indicate that the Touch Plus controllers, like previous touch input devices, will operate in the 2.4 GHz band and require a single AA battery. So far, only the Touch Pro controllers use a built-in battery.

The headset itself operates in the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, or 6 GHz band. The 6 GHz band comes into play when using Wi-Fi 6E, a standard currently only supported by headsets like Vive Focus 3, Vive XR Elite, and Quest Pro.

The higher bandwidth of Wi-Fi 6E combined with the Quest 3's new, more powerful SoC promises improved PC VR streaming when using a compatible router with line-of-sight to the headset in the same room.

What Meta Quest 3 brings

Meta Quest 3 will be released in the fall. Meta has already announced the device, and we can expect a full reveal on September 27 at Meta Connect 2023. The launch could happen at the same time or in the coming days and weeks after the event.

Meta Quest 3 will be available in the US starting at $499.99. The cheaper Quest 2 ($349.99), which was released in 2020, is not replaced by Quest 3 and will remain on sale.

The new headset features double the processing power, higher resolution, a slimmer form factor, color passthrough and advanced mixed reality, as well as ringless controllers with improved haptics.
