The Meta Quest 3 can be enhanced with optional accessories. Learn how to make the Quest 3 more powerful and comfortable in this accessory-guide.

At this year's Meta Connect, the Meta Quest 3 was once again presented in detail. When the VR headset is released on October 10, 2023, you will be able to enhance it with a whole range of optional accessories – from different head mounts to a charging station.

How can I make Meta Quest 3 more comfortable?

The Meta Quest 3 is much more compact than its predecessor and should be more comfortable to wear. However, you can still customize the current generation Quest with optional accessories to ensure the best fit for your VR headset and controllers.

Official Meta Quest 3 Elite Strap

As with the predecessor Quest 2, Meta again offers an Elite Strap for the Quest 3. By turning the wheel on the back, it should be able to adjust to most head sizes.

The strap on the top takes pressure off the face and distributes the weight of the VR headset evenly.

Note: The Elite Strap is also available with an integrated auxiliary battery.

Kiwi Design Comfort Head Strap

The Kiwi Elite Strap is essentially the same as the official Elite Strap from Meta. An oval ring rests against the back of the head and is supported by a headband that runs lengthwise to the VR headset. However, Kiwi pads its headband with memory foam, making it even more comfortable. It is also significantly cheaper than Meta's official version. There is also a convenient hinge on the strap that allows you to fold up the headset.

Kiwi Design Headset Strap Pad

If you like the flexibility of the Quest 3's standard fabric strap, but want something a little more comfortable, the Kiwi Design Headset Strap Pad is for you. The principle is the same as Meta's Elite Strap: the oval rubber pad conforms to the back of your head, distributing pressure more evenly and preventing the fabric strap from cutting into your head.

If you use Meta Quest 3 for VR fitness or other motion-intensive VR games, take a look at the silicone inserts.

Official Meta Quest 3 Facial Interface & Head Strap

For the first time, Meta is offering a more affordable alternative to its own Elite Strap for Quest 3. The Facial Interface with Head Strap is made of breathable padding and keeps out piercing light.

Official Meta Quest 3 Active Straps for Touch Plus Controller

Also important to VR athletes is the security of the controllers. The Quest 3's Touch Plus controllers are attached with wrist straps, which are not very stable.

The Active Straps are designed to provide more support by wrapping the adjustable straps around the back of your hand. This way, you can open your hand without losing the controller and have more stability while playing.

Kiwi Design also offers accessories for the Touch Plus Controllers. The silicone covers are quick to attach and offer double support thanks to the firmly attached straps. The material is high quality and remains non-slip even during sweaty VR fitness sessions. Kiwi also offers a version with an opening to the battery compartment.

How can I improve the performance of Meta Quest 3?

Meta Quest 3 is charged via a simple USB cable. However, like its predecessor, the battery life will be little more than two hours when fully charged.

To improve performance, there are optional battery packs, batteries for controllers, charging stations, but also subscription lenses or connection cables to the PC, for example, to access content from SteamVR.

To ensure that Meta Quest 3 is always ready for use, Meta offers an official charging dock. It charges both the VR headset and the Touch Plus Controllers. The appropriate lithium-ion batteries for the controllers are also included.

By the way: Headset and controllers also fit into the charging dock if you have attached the Elite Strap (with or without battery) and the Active Straps to it.

Kiwi RGB Vertical Charging Stand for Quest 3

Kiwi has released an affordable and reliable charging station for the Quest 3 under the label "Made for Meta". Unlike the standard USB-C cable or Meta's more expensive charging station, the Kiwi station uses a magnetic charging port. The charging station is also compatible with Quest 2 and Quest Pro, but you cannot use it to charge controllers.

Official Meta Quest 3 Elite Strap with battery

The Elite Strap is also available for Quest 3 with an additional battery pack. According to the manufacturer, the battery life of the mobile VR headset can be extended by up to two hours.

Kiwi introduced a new battery head strap for the Meta Quest 3, which is equipped with a 6400 mAh battery and extends the battery life of the VR headset by at least three hours. The battery attaches to the back of the headband and is charged via a magnetic single-point charging system.

PrismXR Carina W1 Wearable Battery Pack

PrismXR has launched a 30W battery belt with a 10000mAh capacity, retailing at $65, which can power the Quest 3 VR headset. The Carina W1 Wearable Battery Pack can charge the Quest 3 while in use, and is flexible enough to be worn around the waist or over the shoulder.

The battery belt can extend the Quest 3's battery life by four to nine hours. During testing, the Carina W1 was able to charge a half-depleted Quest 3 battery for 4 hours, with about 30% of the battery belt's capacity remaining, proving its effectiveness for extended VR gaming sessions.

Official Meta Quest Link cable

When connecting the Meta Quest 3 to your computer to stream PC VR content from SteamVR to your mobile VR headset, you have two options: You can either use wireless streaming via Air Link or connect the Quest 3 via a link cable, which will often result in a more stable connection.

Note: There is no new link cable for the Quest 3, so if you already have a working cable for the Quest 2, you will most likely be able to use it with the Quest 3.

Meta Quest Touch Pro Controller

First introduced with the Quest Pro, Touch Pro Controllers have some special, exclusive features. Most notably, they can track themselves, providing greater precision and stability. For differences from the included Touch Plus Controllers, see the linked article.

Good sound can really enhance the VR experience. The Quest 3 has built-in speakers again, but you can definitely get more out of the VR headset with a good pair of headphones.

Razer's officially licensed Bluetooth in-ear headphones won't be released until later this year. The gaming accessory manufacturer has already released its HyperSpeed Ear Buds for Xbox consoles in the past. The price and performance should be similar to the upcoming Quest version.

Insertable prescription lenses

There is plenty of room for eyeglasses underneath the Meta Quest 3, but it will be more comfortable with custom prescription lenses.
