Meta Quest (2): Well-known space shooter returns
logoUPDATE

Anshar 2: Hyperdrive has received a release date: The VR game will be released on January 20, 2022.

The space shooter Anshar is back. With new controls, improved graphics, new game modes and for the first time in six degrees of freedom.

After two years of radio silence, Lausanne-based VR studio Ozwe Games is back with a new game for Meta Quest (2): a remake of the space shooter Anshar Wars 2 from 2015.

The game was a launch title for the Samsung Gear VR, which already featured multiplayer support and voice chat back then. In 2018, Anshar Online followed with crossplay between Oculus Go, Samsung Gear VR, and Oculus Rift, which featured 50 missions, a PVP mode and co-op mode, and space races.

Optimized for Meta Quest

The remake Anshar 2: Hyperdrive is the first VR game in the series to support spatial tracking for both head and hands.

It is played from two perspectives: an immersive cockpit view or from the outside. In the latter mode, the user's own spaceship is controlled manually, just like the roguelite shooter and arcade smash hit Yuki.

The VR game features a solo campaign consisting of 13 levels, as well as new multiplayer modes: namely Battle Royale, Deathmath and Co-op. Players can level up their spaceship and unlock skins.

Better graphics and 3D sound

For a more immersive experience, the graphics and sound of the original have been improved, and haptic effects have been added. The first official trailer (see above) shows that the studio is staying true to its arcade roots.

In the announcement post on Reddit, the team published three more trailers showing clips from the beta test. You can see the multiplayer in action and how the game plays from the cockpit and outside perspective.

The team is not yet revealing when Anshar 2: Hyperdrive will be released. I will update this article as soon as we learn more. The latest VR game from Ozwe Games is the racing game Death Lap, released in 2019 for Quest and Rift.
