Ikea brings products to Google Search as AR models

Ikea is integrating 3D models of all their products into Google Search. With AR, you can see how they would look in your own home.

Ikea has recently integrated its entire product catalog into Google Search. This allows customers to view more than 10,000 Ikea products in 3D and AR directly through Google Search. Previously, AR viewing of 3D models of Ikea furniture was only available through the iOS-exclusive Ikea Place app.

To access the 3D view in Google Search, simply type in the product name, such as "Linnmon table". Below the search results, you'll find the Ikea website for the product. Below that, you'll see a "View in 3D" button. Tap it and the 3D model will open in a virtual room. There you will find the "View in my home" option, which allows you to view the 3D model in your home.

Note that the "View in 3D" button only appears in Google Search when you explicitly enter the product name. For example, a search query that only includes "Ikea table" will not work.

True-to-scale 3D views facilitate purchasing decisions

Unlike Google's existing 3D AR models of animals and objects, there is no option to resize the Ikea products. Instead, all items are shown to scale. This gives you a realistic sense of how the furniture will fit in your home. You could make a purchase decision without having to visit an Ikea store.

With Ikea Kreativ, the furniture store offers another tool to help you with your shopping. You can use it to scan your rooms and have them replaced or supplemented with Ikea furniture. So far, it's only available in the US. The launch in Germany is planned for 2023.
