FACTS

VR developer Holydh has released a VR mod for the GTA San Andreas Definitive Edition.

The VR mod supports all on foot movements, including crouching, as well as all vehicle driving, including jets and BMX bikes.

Motion control is also supported for all ranged weapons and for scripted shooting sequences in vehicles as a passenger. Zooming with the sniper rifle works as well.

Holydh has also fixed numerous bugs that prevent a complete playthrough in VR.

The VR mod does not yet support roomscale VR and is intended for playing while sitting or standing. In addition, there are several other limitations due to the nature of the base game, which are listed in the "Gameplay Notes" section of the mod description.

You can download the VR mod from Nexusmods. Only the Steam version of the Definitive Edition is supported. The source code for the mod is available on Github.

The VR mod is based on Praydog's UEVR mod as well as the work and knowledge of other VR modders, which are listed in the mod description.

CONTEXT

An official GTA San Andreas VR conversion has been put on hold

In addition to the various VR mods that have been released for GTA San Andreas in recent years, there has also been at least one attempt to officially bring GTA San Andreas to VR.

In 2021, Mark Zuckerberg announced a VR adaptation of the classic for Meta Quest, but it never materialized. After almost three years of silence, Meta confirmed that the project has been put on hold.
