Flat2VR Studios finds investment partner for official VR ports

Good news for the newly founded Flat2VR Studios: The group has found an investment partner in Hartmann Capital to help get the studio off the ground.

FACTS

The CEO of Flat2VR Studios, Jasmine Uniza, announced via X that the company has entered into a partnership with Hartmann Capital.

Hartmann Capital is a US investment firm that invests in digital assets (think: crypto & NFT), VR/AR, AI, space, and transhumanism. In 2022, Hartmann Capital launched a $30 million Metaverse Fund. Since then, the firm has invested in XR platforms and apps such as Liv, ShapesXR and Tripp.

MIXED could not find out how much capital is invested in Flat2VR Studios.

On X, Hartmann Capital's Metaverse analyst JP Minetos announced the partnership. He says that PC VR ports such as Half-Life 2: VR Mod have been downloaded more than 10 million times and points to the success of the standalone VR port of Resident Evil 4, which has become one of the most popular Quest games.

"Flat2VR carries a team of seasoned VR experts, deeply entrenched in the industry. With a wealth of experience and a keen understanding of building native-feeling VR experiences, Flat2VRstudios is the best team for the job," writes Minetos.

CONTEXT

What is the purpose of Flat2VR Studios?

The Flat2VR scene has been bringing flatscreen hits and classics to PC VR and standalone headsets like Meta Quest for years. Most of these projects are not licensed ports and are offered for free as mods or via sideloading.

Flat2VR Studios, which has its roots in the modding scene, wants to professionalize this passion for VR ports. The studio's goal is to develop licensed VR ports and bring them to storefronts such as Steam, the Quest Store and the Playstation Store.

Flat2VR Studios was founded by VR publisher Impact Reality and has hired some of Flat2VR's leading developers, including Cabalistic (Half-Life 2: VR Mod), Raicuparta (Firewatch VR Mod) and Team Beef.

The studio is working on an as-yet-unnamed VR port that is expected to be released in late 2024 or early 2025.
