The Elder Scrolls 6 is officially called Sentinel, but Bethesda says it will be “some time” before more news
The Elder Scrolls 6 finally has its full name: Bethesda has revealed the next game in the series as The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The announcement comes more than eight years after the studio first teased the role-playing game.
There is a caveat for players hoping the name reveal means a larger showcase is around the corner. Bethesda says development is continuing, but it will be “some time” before the team is ready to share more.
The studio shared the update alongside its 40th-anniversary celebrations. Xbox also published an official name-reveal page featuring the Sentinel logo.
A name for Bethesda’s next Elder Scrolls game
Bethesda introduced The Elder Scrolls VI at its E3 showcase on June 10, 2018. In its announcement at the time, the studio described the game as being in pre-production and showed a short teaser.
The Sentinel name gives fans a concrete title for that project. Bethesda’s latest post also describes the announcement as a reveal of the name and location, but it does not spell out the game’s map, story or systems in that post.
The studio did not give a release date or platform list in the update. Its description of the wait for further information is not a launch window, so it should not be read as a promise of a particular year.
Bethesda says most of its team is working on the game
In a July update on its plans, Bethesda said The Elder Scrolls VI was its primary development focus and that the majority of its team was working on the project. It also said the game and Fallout 5 were being built on Creation Engine 3, a shared technology platform developed since Starfield launched.
At the time, the studio said Fallout 5 was in pre-production. That earlier update did not provide a release date for either game, and the Sentinel reveal does not change that.
Bethesda has not dated its next update. Players waiting for gameplay footage, platform details or a release window will have to wait for the studio to share more.
