“Steam Cloud saves are now on for everyone”: Crystal Rift shares progress between PC and Steam Frame

Crystal Rift players can now take their dungeon progress between a PC and Steam Frame. The update enables shared Steam Cloud saves and adds Steam Workshop level packs for the PC version of the grid-based dungeon crawler.

Developer Psytec Games says “Steam Cloud saves are now on for everyone”, with game settings kept separate on each device. The same update revises the VR level editor so players can switch between building and testing without reaching for a keyboard.

Workshop support is described as a PC feature in the patch notes. The shared save feature is a separate addition, so Steam Frame owners should not assume that every Workshop workflow is available directly on the headset.

Players can publish their own dungeon packs on PC

Creators can build levels in the editor and use Publish beside an editor slot to upload its levels as a pack. Other players can browse Workshop from the main menu, subscribe to a pack and choose a difficulty before entering it.

A My Level Packs section lets creators update or unpublish their work. The Load Game menu has a Saves button for switching between the main game and individual packs, so progress in a custom dungeon can be kept apart from the campaign.

Inside VR, the new editor palette floats above the player’s free hand. Its controls include saving, filling, undoing, copying and moving between levels. Test Play and Back to Editor are available from the pause menu; the original F2 keyboard shortcut still works.

The update also changes how the PC version starts

Psytec says the rebuilt PC version uses OpenXR and supports SteamVR headsets. It starts in VR if a headset is available and in desktop mode if it is not, so a player does not have to use a headset for every session.

The developer also lists a controller layout for Steam Frame streaming, faster loading and fixes to sword attacks and the crystal dragon encounter. Saving has been hardened against a crash or headset removal while a save is being written.

Crystal Rift is a paid game on Steam; the developer presents these features as an update to the existing game. Check the Steam Cloud setting and allow a completed sync before switching devices.
