Blade & Sorcery mod lists were going invisible, so WarpFrog rewrote the mod manager

Mod lists in Blade & Sorcery had been going invisible, and WarpFrog has named the cause: "the plugin we used for mod.io was reclassified as obsolete, becoming more and more unsupported over time." The studio's answer, in patch 1.3.2.2 posted at 13:51 UTC on October 14, is a rebuilt mod manager rather than another patch around the old plugin.

The mod.io SDK update "required multiple changes to our mod manager code", WarpFrog says, so the studio "used this opportunity to do a major refactor of the mod manager to improve its architecture". The faults had piled up first: "This accumulated to the point where the mod manager was having serious issues, like mod lists frustratingly becoming invisible, and other oddities."

One bug survived the rewrite

WarpFrog says the scale of the rewrite means "some small bugs may crop up that we are still trying to pin down and squash", and it names one that is still in the build: "a rare bug where the first time the mod manager browser is opened it does not show the full mods list". Restarting the game clears it, and the studio says it is still working on the permanent fix.

It shipped the patch anyway, saying it "didn't want to delay the release of this patch which fixes other major issues that players were experiencing with the old plugin". Those fixes include the mods list sometimes not showing installed mods on Nomad, the Quest build, manual mods conflicting with subscribed ones, the manager failing to save options, and manually deleted mods not reinstalling.

The rebuilt manager adds search by author

WarpFrog says the new manager handles mod conflicts, dependencies and invalid mods better, and it adds a search by author, a dependency confirmation window and a larger keyboard. Disabled mods now dim, a "No mods found" message appears when none are installed, and "Uninstall All Mods" asks for confirmation in writing.

The patch also sets the default master volume to 50% and moves the dalgarian tools so they appear only after a player's first dalgarian dungeon run. For modders, WarpFrog has added Unity.XR.OpenXR to the game assemblies list "to prevent mod loading issues".

Madlu is next, with no date on it

WarpFrog calls 1.3.2.2 "one last 1.3.x patch for you before the next big 1.4 Madlu update", and says further mod manager fixes can either arrive as small hotfixes or go into that release. The previous patch, 1.3.1.2 on July 30, was also mod manager work, and the studio describes it as "essentially just a small fix to get us out of a pinch with regards a critical issue".

Blade & Sorcery costs $29.99 in the US on Steam, where the PC version reached 1.0 in June 2024, and the standalone Quest version is Blade & Sorcery: Nomad.
