Military training gets XR upgrade with Varjo and BISim collaboration

Back in September, Varjo became a technology partner of the US Army. Now the VR/XR technology experts are announcing their next big partnership: Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim), a developer of military simulation and training software, is teaming up with Varjo. The partnership will include pre-testing and early integration of each company's products, offering users turnkey packages of BISim software with Varjo's VR and mixed reality headsets. Together, Varjo and BISim aim to accelerate the creation of new use cases for training and mission rehearsal for military applications while reducing cost, risk, and time to market.

Microsoft is set to retire Azure Spatial Anchors

Microsoft is set to retire its Mixed Reality cloud service Azure Spatial Anchors on 20 November 2024. Until then, current subscribers can continue to use the service, but are advised to stop using it and delete their accounts by the retirement date. This decision comes as a surprise, especially following the recent release of a promotional video for Microsoft Co-Pilot in Mixed Reality and Microsofts commitment to the industrial metaverse.

Flatscreen vs. VR: This game finally decides which side is better

Davigo is an asynchronous 4v1 multiplayer game with a special twist: The game pits PC players against VR players. A VR player embodies a giant head with floating hands and aims to kill four PC warriors using full-body gestures to crush opponents. Conversely, the flat-screen team on the PC fights the giant by building an arsenal of weapons. Davigo's early access launch will be on Steam and Quest App Lab, offering seven maps, four game modes to compete in, and mod support via mod.io where you can download custom maps created with the Davigo Map Editor. The game will be released on November 29th on Steam Meta Quest 3, Quest 2 and Quest Pro via App Lab. The full version is scheduled for release in early 2024.
