Alien: Rogue Incursion won't support Quest 2 and Quest Pro
Alien: Rogue Incursion, which will be released at the end of 2024, will run on Quest 3, but not on Quest 2 and Quest Pro.
Alien: Rogue Incursion was announced this weekend for Quest 3, Playstation VR 2 and SteamVR, and Survios has confirmed that the VR game will not be coming to Quest 2 and Quest Pro.
So far, there are only a few known titles that run on Quest 3, but not on Quest 2 and Quest Pro.
Meta's mixed reality tutorial First Encounters is one of them, as well as the city builder Townsmen VR, which was released for Quest 3 earlier this year. While Townsmen VR is also available for other VR platforms, namely Playstation VR 2 and SteamVR, Starship Home, which was announced for this fall, is being developed exclusively for Quest 3.
Alien: Rogue Incursion, like Townsmen VR, will be available for VR platforms other than Quest, but it is the first major title announced that will not support Quest 2 and Quest Pro.
Meta begins to phase out Quest 2
Meta Quest 3 won't be the only Quest headset you can use to play Alien: Rogue Incursion.
On the one hand, there are reports that Meta will release a cheaper Quest 3 called Quest 3 Lite or Quest 3S later this year to replace the Quest 2. On the other hand, Meta recently announced standalone headsets from RoG and Lenovo that will run on Horizon OS and use the same chipset as the Quest 3 or its higher clocked variant, the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2.
The fact that a major VR title like Alien: Rogue Incursion is bypassing the older generation Quest headsets is another indication that Quest 3 Lite is in the starting blocks and Meta is ready to make a push into the next generation. Even with Quest 2, it took about a year for the first major exclusive title (Resident Evil 4) to be released that didn't run on Quest 1.
With this in mind, we can expect more Quest 3 exclusive titles to be announced over the course of the year.
