In early 2024, Resolution Games announced that it was developing the first official D&D VR game.

The studio has now released an announcement trailer that gives a first impression of the game's visual style, and announced its name: Demeo X Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked (hereafter referred to as "Battlemarked").

Battlemarked is a collaboration between Demeo developer Resolution Games and Wizards of the Coast, the publisher of Dungeons & Dragons and the Magic: The Gathering Trading Card Game. Battlemarked will use Demeo's award-winning action roleplaying system.

"By leveraging the power of the Demeo system, Resolution Games is able to take a different approach to Dungeons & Dragons by putting the emphasis on fast turn-based combat and pick-up-and-play mechanics," says Eugene Evans, SVP of Digital Strategy & Licensing at Wizards of the Coast in a prepared statement.

Like Demeo, Battlemarked does not have a Dungeon Master and focuses more on cooperative strategy than social roleplaying. The emphasis is on tactics and group decision-making.

Coming to XR devices, PC and consoles, Battlemarked supports cross-play with up to four players. It will feature two story-based campaigns at launch, with additional campaigns in different D&D settings planned as downloadable content in the future.

Unfortunately, it is not yet known when Demeo X Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked will be released. However, we are hoping for this year.

CONTEXT

I look forward to new Demeo adventures

Demeo is one of the most popular games in VR history, and it's by far the VR game I've spent the most hours on. So I'm really excited about Battlemarked.

After the resounding success of Demeo, an officially licensed D&D game was the logical next step for the studio.

"With the launch of Demeo back in 2021, we began to grow an incredible relationship with the D&D player community," says Tommy Palm, founder and CEO, Resolution Games. "Demeo and Demeo Battles quickly became a game night substitute for Dungeon Masters who wanted an out-of-campaign way to have fun with their groups, and for D&D players to introduce their friends and family to tabletop miniatures games. Battlemarked opens up that appeal even further by adapting the classes, actions, and lore of Dungeons & Dragons to this system for all new adventures and a whole new experience built from the ground up with D&D in mind."

Demeo fans like myself have been waiting a long time for new heroes and adventures. The fifth and final Demeo campaign, Reign of Madness, was released in late 2022. Although the spin-off Demeo Battles was released a year later, it focused on short and intense PVP battles rather than cooperative adventures.
