Meta Quest copies another cool feature from Vision Pro

Meta Quest will be able to automatically extend the screen of Windows 11 laptops to digital displays.

A glance at the laptop and a tap of a virtual button is all it takes to activate the digital monitor extension. The physical display turns off and its content is displayed on a customizable digital display that floats above the laptop. Apple Vision Pro does something very similar for MacBooks.

Meta worked with Microsoft to develop this feature. Using the existing Windows 11 remote desktop solution, Quest users do not need to install any additional software on their Quest or laptop. Currently, similar functionality requires separate software such as the Quest Remote Desktop and Horizon Workrooms apps or third-party applications.

The new Quest feature will roll out later this year.

Meta Quest benefits from Vision Pro

This is far from the first Quest feature inspired or accelerated by Apple Vision Pro. Meta brought spatial video playback, a travel mode, panorama import and a more flexible window layout this year, with some of these features already in development before the unveiling of Vision Pro.

Meta's CTO Andrew Bosworth writes on X that Apple Vision Pro has indirectly helped enable the monitor extension feature, as more partners are now interested in implementing it.
