Chinese manufacturer DPVR has unveiled the P1 Pro Cam, a new mixed reality headset designed primarily for use in schools and universities. The device features a 13MP camera to overlay digital information onto the real world.

According to DPVR, the P1 Pro Cam enables the seamless integration of mixed reality content into the classroom. The goal is to make abstract concepts more tangible by enriching physical objects with digital content. The 4K Ultra HD display is designed to provide a detailed presentation of learning material.

With a battery life of 4000 mAh, the P1 Pro Cam is designed for a full school day. Flexible control options, such as a touchpad and wireless controller, are designed to allow teachers to adapt the mixed reality experience to different teaching styles and classroom scenarios.

According to DPVR, the P1 Pro Cam is ergonomically designed to be lightweight and comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. The actual weight of the headset is unknown. The standalone P1 Ultra models released so far weigh between 340 and 410 grams. DPVR offers an optional protective and cleaning case to facilitate maintenance and storage of the devices.

DPVR: Successful in the Asian market

The Shanghai-based company has established itself as one of the most successful VR headset manufacturers in Asia in recent years. According to IDC, DPVR was the world's second best-selling VR headset in 2021, behind Meta. The company has already sold more than 450,000 units of the DPVR E4 PC VR headset in Asia (as of 2023).

In April, DPVR introduced the E4 Arc, a new VR headset with integrated Ultraleap hand tracking. The device is a variant of the DPVR E4 PC VR headset and features a Leap Motion Controller 2 hand tracking camera from Ultraleap.
