You can play 007 First Light's opening mission for free on Steam, and your progress carries over
James Bond's latest game now has a free starting point on PC. IO Interactive has released a 007 First Light Starter Pack on Steam that lets players take on the opening Iceland mission without buying the full game.
The free pack is available on Xbox Series X and S too. PlayStation players are due to receive it on November 10, according to the developer; the current PlayStation Plus Premium one-hour trial is a separate offer.
Progress made in the Starter Pack carries over to the full game if you decide to purchase it, IO Interactive says. That gives players a chance to see the beginning of its young Bond story without having to repeat the introduction after upgrading.

What's included in the free download
The Starter Pack covers the opening chapter in Iceland, introducing a reimagined version of James Bond before his career as 007. The Steam page lists it as a free demo and links it to the full game.

It is not the entire adventure. IO Interactive says the full version provides the complete story, challenges and Tactical Simulations mode. Those interested in the later missions will need the paid game after trying the opening.
The Steam listing describes the game as mature, with violence, strong language and other adult themes. Parents should check the store's content information before downloading it for a younger player.

Check the PC requirements before installing
The Steam page for the free pack lists Windows 10 or 11, a 64-bit processor and operating system, 16GB of RAM, and an SSD with 80GB of available space among its minimum requirements. It lists an Intel Core i5-9500 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500 as example minimum processors, and an Nvidia GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 as example graphics cards.
Those are the listed minimums, not a promise of a particular frame rate or graphics preset. Storage requirements can change as the game is updated, so check the current Steam listing before clearing space.
On Xbox Series X and S, the same opening mission is available through the Starter Pack. On PlayStation, IO Interactive says the pack arrives November 10; Plus Premium members have access to the separate one-hour trial in the meantime. Both forms of progress carry over when purchasing the full game, according to the developer's announcement.
For PC players, the easiest way to try it is to open the Starter Pack's Steam page and choose Install Demo. You can then decide whether the rest of Bond's adventure is worth adding to your library.
