FACTS

French game studio Microids announced a remaster of Syberia, the beloved adventure created by Belgian comic artist Benoît Sokal back in 2002. The new Syberia Remastered is slated to launch at the end of 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.

But that’s not all. Alongside the remaster, a dedicated VR version—Syberia VR—is in development for Meta Quest 3 and 3S. This version promises full immersion in Sokal’s distinctive world, letting you experience the game’s iconic locations up close in virtual reality.

According to Microids founder Elliot Grassiano, Syberia VR is specifically designed for Meta Quest 3. The team is aiming for a new narrative approach, while still honoring the spirit of the original. First images and more details are expected in the coming months. For now, the teaser below highlights the PC and console remaster.

If you want to keep tabs on the remaster, you can already add Syberia Remastered to your wishlist on Steam or in the PlayStation Store. Syberia VR doesn’t have a Horizon Store page yet, but it’s set to launch alongside the other versions.

CONTEXT

What is Syberia?

Syberia is regarded as a standout in the point-and-click adventure genre. Released in 2002, it became known for its gripping story, eccentric cast, and distinctive visual style.

The game follows Kate Walker, a young American lawyer sent to a picturesque French village to oversee the sale of a rundown automaton factory. What starts as a straightforward business trip soon turns into a surreal and emotional journey across Europe, eventually reaching the edge of Russia.

Syberia went on to spawn three sequels: Syberia II, Syberia 3, and Syberia: The World Before. The series’ creator, Benoît Sokal, passed away in 2021 at age 66.
