Stranger Things season 4: Start date for Netflix sci-fi announced
The fourth season of Stranger Things finally gets a start date. At the same time, Netflix announces the end of the successful sci-fi series.
Twin brothers Matt and Ross Duffer created one of the most successful Netflix series of all time in 2016 with Stranger Things. The mix of science fiction, horror and coming-of-age comedy earned the first season numerous Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Now the long-awaited fourth season begins - and at the same time the beginning of the end approaches.
Stranger Things: The mega hit for Netflix
The Duffers hit the bull's eye with the setting in the eighties, which have been popular for years, the atmospheric synth soundtrack and the reference to evergreens such as The Goonies, E.T. and Stand By Me. For the young actors Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard, Stranger Things 1 was the starting signal for a promising career.
Netflix has landed a mega success with Stranger Things. According to the analysts at Symphony, season one received over 14 million mostly positive ratings after about a month.
The series became a franchise and Netflix even produced a Stranger Things VR game for PSVR and an augmented reality game for Stranger Things. In 2019, Netflix announced via Twitter that Stranger Things season 3 was watched by 40.7 million accounts in five days.
Stranger Things: Sci-fi series goes into the fourth round
After the third season, it was quiet around Elfi and her boys for a long time. The pandemic hampered the completion, as with so many projects, and caused a nearly three-year dry spell for fans. Now Netflix and the Duffer brothers have spoken out with an extensive tweet, including scene images and the start date for the fourth season.

In an open letter to fans, the series creators revealed the details. Season 4 is expected to significantly surpass the previous one in terms of scope. According to the Duffers, filming would have taken just under two years. Because of its length, the series will be split for the first time. Part one of season four will start on May 27, 2022, while part two is scheduled to kick off on July 1, 2022.
Stranger Things, season 4: The beginning of the end
At the same time, Matt and Ross Duffer also announced the end of the series. Seven years ago, the two had designed the complete story arc for Stranger Things. Even then, it was clear that the story would be told after five seasons - and that's how it will be now. After the fifth season, Stranger Things will be over for good.
But there is hope for fans: At the end of the letter, the brothers write that there are still many more stories to tell within the Stranger Things universe, which could uncover new mysteries and deliver adventures with unexpected heroes. The series may be ending, but the franchise is probably far from over for Netflix.
