Pico Motion Tracker: These VR games are compatible with the smart VR accessory
With the launch of the Pico 4 Ultra, the ByteDance subsidiary also offers the Pico Motion Tracker. We show you which standalone VR games support the additional motion tracking.
The Pico motion trackers convinced me in my review of the Pico 4 Ultra. They are small, ultra-light, easy to calibrate and reliable. If you pre-order the Pico 4 Ultra, you get the motion trackers for free. From September 20, they will only be available separately at a price of €89. To make the purchase worthwhile, compatible VR games are required, and Pico has already announced some.
The following VR games support the Pico Motion Tracker
According to Pico, you can expect more than 20 compatible standalone VR games after the launch of the Pico 4 Ultra. The following titles are already known:
- Les Mills XR Dance
- Racket Club
- Tempo Club
- Foot Pool
- Let's Get Fit VR
- All in One Sports
- VRChat
- Blade and Sorcery: Nomad (compatibility will be added via update)
In addition to these standalone games from the Pico Store, you should also be able to use the Pico Motion Tracker with all PC VR games on SteamVR that support additional motion tracking.
Pico Motion Trackers as an inexpensive alternative
With its motion trackers, Pico is aiming for the sweet spot between Sony's low-cost Mocopi Trackers, which use only IMUs, and HTC's expensive Vive Ultimate Trackers, which use built-in cameras to precisely orient themselves in space. Pico promises 20ms latency for motion detection and 98% accuracy for step detection.
You can connect up to three motion trackers per VR headset and attach them either to your ankles or to third-party accessories like VR golf putters, ping pong bats, or fake guns. In addition to the Pico 4 Ultra, the Pico 4 and Pico Neo 3 Link are also supported.
To calibrate the motion trackers, simply look at them with the headset for five seconds. The battery life is 25 hours, and they are charged via USB-C. The weight of the tracker and base is 27 grams (without strap).
For tracking, Pico uses a combination of an IMU sensor for 3-DoF tracking and 12 infrared lights for optical 6-DoF tracking. Accurate spatial tracking is therefore only guaranteed when the trackers are in the field of view of the headset cameras.
