Peaky Blinders: The gangster series turns into a VR game

The British TV series Peaky Blinders is getting a VR adaptation.

In Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom, you’ll join the infamous gang and take on 1920s Birmingham. You’ll complete missions and interact with characters from the series, including the gangster brothers Tommy and Arthur Shelby. They are voiced by the original actors Cillian Murphy and Paul Anderson.

The VR game is also supposed to follow the original closely in other respects. The VR studio responsible, Maze Theory (Doctor Who: The Edge of Time), worked together with the production company of the TV series. Nevertheless, you will also meet and get to know new characters.

Believable virtual characters

In the role of a gang member, you will be able to visit familiar locations from the series such as the Garrison Pub, Charlie’s Yard, and Shelby’s betting shop, experience cinematic moments, and make moral decisions that influence the plot, the VR studio promises.

The game was already announced in 2019. The first trailer shows atmospheric scenery fitting to the series, but no gameplay yet.

“For the first time, fans will have access to believable and responsive characters from Peaky Blinders, coming face-to-face with Tommy Shelby and encountering first-hand some terrifying situations,”  said Ian Hambleton, CEO of Maze Theory, on the announcement of the VR game.

Peaky Blinders: Release in 2022

Responsive characters, what does that mean? According to previous announcements, the game will use Artificial Intelligence that will make digital characters react to your body language and voice. That sounds interesting and would be something we haven’t seen in VR in this form before.

Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom is coming in 2022. The VR platforms are not yet known. The studio’s last VR game Doctor Who: The Edge of Time was released for all major VR headsets.
