nextReality.Hamburg e.V. is a German association that seeks innovative thought leaders and honors original ideas and creative projects with a focus on augmented, mixed and virtual reality as well as 360° film.
With prize money of €14.000 in total, the nextReality.Contest is one of the most important prizes in the industry and points the way forward for the development of immersive media and future technologies in Germany.
For our international friends: You can submit your projects in the category "International Production".
The submitted projects are awarded by an independent team of judges. After two years of virtual award ceremony, the award ceremony 2022 will take place live and in real on 4th November 2022 at the Astor Film Lounge in Hamburg
This is how you can participate
Solutions from companies, agencies, start-ups as well as works by students, freelance artists and developers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland can submit. For the first time this year, projects from all over the world can participate in the category "International Production".

Have you developed an exciting solution based on VR or AR technology to face the challenges of business? Then submit your project under the category "Interactive Business"!

Young Talent
In this category, nextReality.Hamburg is looking for XR projects that come exclusively from students. If the new generation is to disrupt, then it must be promoted!

Best Technology
nextReality.Hamburg is looking for innovations that drive the immersive media industry forward and want to honor real makers!
Prize money: 2.000,- €
Best Installation
The focus here is on holistic XR experiences, i.e. hardware and software projects that can be experienced either location-based or in combination with an installation.
Interactive Education (new)
This category is all about interactive learning using XR technologies. If you have developed an immersive application with an educational approach or training tools that focus on didactic aspects, then your submissions are in the right place in this category!

Zeitgeist (new)
Does your XR application touch the pulse of time? In this category, nextReality.Hamburg e.V. is looking for XR applications with current relevance. From journalism to art, or narrative experiences - here are all projects that are shaped by events, circumstances and challenges of the present.

International Production
Within this category, the association is looking for innovative applications from the entire XR world for the first time. Here you can submit both software and hardware cases from the entire spectrum of immersive technologies.

Community Award
Each submission also has the chance to participate in the audience award. Here you can vote who should win!
In two phases, this year's independent expert judging panel will evaluate, test and discuss the submitted applications and determine the finalists. You can find more information about the #XRC22 jury here.
Award ceremony in November
On 4th November 2022 the time has come, the winners will be announced at the NextReality.Contest award ceremony. So Save the Date! This year real and live in Hamburg at the Astor - All information about the award ceremony and how you can be there you will find out in a given time on our website.

Save the date: XRcon in September
On September 8 and 9, the association organized for the second time, the nextReality.Conference, short XRcon, with exciting talks and interesting panels and time for networking. The XRcon is a specialized conference of nextReality.Hamburg, with content ranging between research, technology, design and real market potentials. In order to enable as many interested parties as possible to attend, the association plans to hold XRcon virtually.
