Meta Quest: Star-studded VR comedy series launches in May

Starting in May, comedy stars like Jay Pharoah and Pete Holmes will be making you laugh in Meta Horizon Worlds — as avatars!

The VR comedy series "Soapstone Comedy Presents" by Meta and The Soapstone Comedy Club will premiere in Meta Horizon Worlds on Thursday, May 16th. In six monthly shows through October, well-known comedians will perform as avatars in the virtual The Soapstone Comedy Club in Hanalei Bay.

Jay Pharoah will kick things off on May 16, followed by Pete Holmes (June 13), Natasha Leggero (July 11), Ron Funches (August 8), Jesus Trejo (September 5), and Cristela Alonzo (October 3).

Soapstone Comedy Presents is produced by The Soapstone Comedy Club, B17 Entertainment (part of Sony Pictures Television) and Nspire Create Labs in partnership with Meta and can be viewed via Meta Quest 3, Quest 2, Quest Pro or the Horizon smartphone app and web browser.

Exclusive content provides more entertainment in VR

Meta seems to be focusing more on exclusive VR entertainment content to broaden the appeal of its VR platforms and attract new audiences. Various genres such as comedy and horror are being explored. In addition to the comedy series "Soapstone Comedy Presents," Meta recently released the VR horror series "The Faceless Lady," which was created in collaboration with director Eli Roth.

The six-part series is based on a popular legend about Lady Margaret Hodnett, who is said to haunt Castle Kilolc. The plot revolves around three couples who are invited to the castle for a supposedly harmless game that turns out differently than expected.
