Meta Quest 3 is the next-gen successor to the Quest 2 and was unveiled in detail at Meta Connect 2023.

How much does Quest 3 cost?
Quest 3 is available in two SKUs: one with 128GB and one with 512GB storage. The US prices are as follows:
- $500 for the 128GB SKU
- $650 for the 512 GB SKU
The following bundle offer with Asgard's Wrath 2 is also valid until January 27, 2024:
- Those who purchase the 128GB SKU will receive Asgard's Wrath 2 for free. The game costs $60.
- Those who purchase the 512GB SKU will receive Asgard's Wrath 2 for free. In addition, they'll get six months of Meta Quest+. Those who cancel their subscription after this period will lose access to the claimed VR games until the subscription is renewed.
The Quest 2 and Quest Pro will continue to be sold. The devices are currently priced at $300 and $1000 respectively.
Key hardware features at a glance
- Quest 3 is a standalone virtual reality headset and therefore requires no wires and no external sensors or compute. A smartphone is required for initial setup.
- Unlike Quest 2, the headset is also designed for and supports advanced mixed reality, which enables the blending of physical and digital reality. Read more about the possibilities in our Mixed Reality article series.
- The Quest 3's advanced mixed reality is made possible by a new sensor architecture: two RGB cameras and a depth sensor capture your physical environment and reproduce it on the displays. This so-called passthrough is of higher quality than in Quest 2 and Quest Pro. With Quest 3, the passthrough has ten times the resolution of Quest 2 and three times the resolution of Quest Pro.
- Quest 3 features two LCD panels with a resolution of 2,064 x 2,208 pixels per eye. That's nearly 30 percent more pixels than Quest 2, making Quest 3 the highest-resolution display of any Quest headset to date.
- Like Quest Pro, Quest 3 features pancake lenses for a sharper image, wider field of view, and a thinner casing for improved comfort.
- Quest 3 is the first headset to feature Qualcomm's brand new XR chip, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, which more than doubles the graphics performance of Quest 2.
- The built-in speakers deliver improved sound quality and richer bass, and are up to 40 percent louder than the Quest 2.
- Simplified room setup: Meta Quest 3 supports seated, standing, and roomscale VR (the latter requires a minimum of 6.5 feet x 6.5 feet of floor space as well as additional buffer around the selected space). The environment is automatically scanned and no longer needs to be drawn manually.
- With Quest 3, Meta introduces the ringless Touch Plus controllers with refined haptic effects. Quest 3 also supports hand tracking as an alternative, controller-less input scheme.
What software does Quest 3 offer?
Quest 3 is fully backwards compatible with Quest 2 titles. That's more than 500 games, experiences, movies, and apps (fitness, travel, productivity, and more).
There are also more than 100 new and updated titles coming through the end of the year. More than 50 of these titles will be new, while more than 50 other games and apps will be enhanced with mixed reality features.
Does Quest 3 support PC VR streaming?
Yes, Quest 3, like Quest 2, supports wired or wireless streaming from a PC via Link or Air Link.
What IPD range does Quest 3 support?
Quest 3 supports continuous adjustment of the interpupillary distance using a lens distance adjustment wheel. The mechanical spacing is 58 to 70 millimeters, while the supported IPD range is 53 to 75 millimeters.

Mixed Reality Technology
Two 4 MP RGB cameras provide color passthrough with 18 PPD pixel density and ten times the resolution of Quest 2's passthrough. A depth sensor allows for accurate depth projection and room mapping.
Ergonomics
Thanks to pancake lenses, the Quest 3's casing is 40 percent thinner, making it more comfortable to wear than the Quest 2.

A soft strap is included. Those who prefer a more robust and comfortable headband can purchase Meta's Elite Strap (with or without battery, sold separately) or a third-party head strap.
Display and Optics
- Two LCD panels with a resolution of 2,064 x 2,208 pixels per eye, which is nearly 30 percent more than the Quest 2. PPD is 25, PPI is 1218.
- Refresh rate: 90 hertz, 120 hertz (experimental).
- Field of view: 110 degrees horizontal, 96 degrees vertical. Nearly 15% wider than Quest 2.
- Pancake lenses increase sharpness by 25%, with significantly fewer stray or scattered light artifacts.
- An IPD adjustment wheel gives you more precise lens positioning and smooth distance adjustment, so you can customize the distance between the lenses to enhance your fit and picture clarity. Meta supports an IPD range from 53mm - 75mm.
- An eye-relief adjustment allows you to adjust the lens distance from your eyes to optimize fit and viewing experience. Conveniently built into the facial interface.
- Eye and face tracking are not featured.

Charging
- The headset is charged using the included USB-C cable and power adapter (18W). Alternatively, you can use Meta's charging dock (sold separately).
- Charge time is approximately 2 hours.
- Battery life is about the same as Quest 2, with Meta providing the following numbers:
- Overall: Up to 2.2 hours of usage on average.
- Media: 2.9 hours of usage on average.
- Gaming: 2.4 hours of usage on average.
- Social networking: 2.2 hours of usage on average.
- Productivity: 1.5 hours of usage on average.
