Meta reportedly racing to launch AI glasses with a display

Meta is accelerating work on new AI glasses with a head-up display. The company is targeting an October launch.
This was reported by the Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman in the latest edition of his newsletter.
"While the product remains at a slight risk of getting delayed past the October timeline, top managers on the team have told employees they need to accelerate their work. In some cases, that means working through the weekend to ensure a timely release," Gurman writes.

Unlike the already available Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, Meta's latest model, codenamed Hypernova, will feature a small monocular head-up display, Gurman reported a few weeks ago. According to Gurman, the display will be able to show simple apps and photos that have been taken.
If the product does come to market, it will be Meta's first AI glasses with a display. According to Gurman, the smart glasses will cost between $1,000 and $1,400. Meta may launch the smart glasses along with a sEMG wristband that uses neural signals to control the glasses, an entirely new product category that Meta has shown in 2024.
New, lighter Apple Vision Pro could arrive later this year
Gurman also reports that Apple is working on its own camera-equipped smart glasses, codenamed N50, which will benefit from Apple Intelligence. The wearable "isn’t close to being ready yet".
The next Apple Vision Pro, which is expected to be lighter and cheaper, could be released between the end of this year and the first half of 2026, according to Mark Gurman. Whether the new Vision Pro will replace the older model or be a cheaper alternative remains to be seen.
