Disney+ starts streaming Marvel films in 3D in November, and Meta has not named the device
Disney+ will start streaming Marvel films in 3D in November, Meta says, and the announcement names no device to watch them on. Meta lists Marvel's The Avengers and Marvel Studios' Black Panther, promises more titles, and limits the launch to "select countries" without naming one.

The films come with themed viewing environments, and Meta names three: Tatooine, Avengers Tower and Scare Floor. A Disney+ subscription is required, and Meta says availability of 3D playback on Disney+ varies by region, so a film that plays in 3D in one country may be flat in another.
Meta named Meta Quest for its other November release
The Disney+ deal was announced alongside Meta VR Glasses, the roughly 100-gram glasses that go on sale in spring 2027 for $1,299.99. November arrives more than a year before that hardware does.
Meta was specific about devices everywhere else in the same announcement. It says you will be able to rent or buy hundreds of films later this year on Meta Quest in the US, and that Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour, the concert film co-directed by Billie Eilish and James Cameron, goes on sale to buy and rent in 3D on Quest in November.
ESPN's 8K, 180-degree Immersive Sports gets a device too. Meta says it starts with college football this year on Meta Quest. The Disney+ 3D catalogue is the one launch with nothing attached to it.
ILM says its cinema app is in development for Quest 3 as well
Disney's other item is an app, Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM, carrying VR Enhanced versions of Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: A New Hope. Meta ties that one to the Meta VR Glasses launch in spring 2027.
Industrial Light & Magic goes further. ILM says the app and a second experience, National Geographic: Beyond, are "currently in development for Meta VR Glasses and Meta Quest 3 and 3S", with more details to come. That covers ILM's own two apps, not the Disney+ catalogue.
ILM describes the app as a hub for feature films in which the film itself is unchanged, with effects from key scenes spilling past the edge of the screen. "With Meta VR Glasses, we can bring fans closer to real places, beloved characters, and iconic moments that are authentic to the filmmakers' vision," said Shereif Fattouh, executive producer at ILM.
Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+ open their 3D catalogues
Three streaming services are opening 3D libraries for the first time, Meta says: Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+. Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, AMC+ and Crunchyroll are named for the TV app, and Meta calls the VR Glasses the first IMAX Enhanced certified VR device.
The rest sits further out. Meta says the library should reach thousands of titles internationally by the VR Glasses launch, including 3D films from Lionsgate, and that it is working with James Cameron and Lightstorm Vision on "first time in 3D" blockbusters in 2027. Cameron's Lightstorm Vision agreed to make exclusive 3D content for Meta Quest in December 2024, and he has praised Quest 3 as a 3D film player.
November is the nearest date anywhere in the announcement. The other releases Meta dated for this year, including a 3D concert film in the same month, it put on Meta Quest.
About bloody time. Do one more step and release all the 3D content for those that still have 3D TV’s so they can enjoy the streaming content with their families. @3DVldeo on insta.
