VR Battle Royale Contractors Showdown has a Quest release date

Contractors Showdown may be the biggest virtual reality battle royale yet, and it is coming to the Quest Store this month.

FACTS

Contractors Showdown allows up to 60 players to battle on a 16 square kilometer map. The studio describes the game as follows:

Navigate the high-stakes arena using an array of tactical props, including airstrikes and UAVs. These game-changing elements elevate the intensity, offering players the opportunity to unleash powerful tools and outsmart their opponents. Plan your moves, coordinate with your squad, and deploy these strategic assets to dominate the battlefield.

The weapon arsenal consists of sniper rifles, shotguns, assault rifles, machine guns, pistols, and more. There are also a variety of scopes, grenades, and other accessories.

The progression system allows you to earn resource points and unlock blueprints and cosmetic items. Before each match, you can also choose from three types of perks that give you strategic advantages.

The game has been built from the ground up for virtual reality and has undergone alpha and beta testing with thousands of players over the past few months.

A PC VR version is also in development and should follow soon, but does not yet have a release date.

CONTEXT

Military shooters are among the most popular VR genres

Caveman Studio is the developer behind Contractors Showdown. Its predecessor Contractors is one of the biggest hits on Meta Quest with more than 8,000 ratings.

The military shooter genre is very popular with VR gamers. Titles like Ghosts of Tabor, Onward, Breachers and Pavlov Shack are among the most played games on Meta Quest.

Battle royale VR titles are rather rare. The best known is Meta's Population: One, for which new free content was released yesterday. The second major update of the year, "Event Series 2", brings three two-week-long in-game events and rewards, which you can read more about on the Quest Blog.
