Zombie shooter Drop Dead is getting mixed reality mode on Quest 3

Developer studio Soul Assembly will introduce a new mixed reality mode called “Home Invasion” for the VR game Drop Dead: The Cabin. A video (see link in source) shows how the entire play area of a home environment is transformed into an XR shooting gallery, with zombies breaking in through virtual windows and doors. While the gameplay was recorded using a Quest Pro, the mode is said to be primarily designed for the Meta Quest 3 version of the game. A video of the Quest 3 pass-through quality was recently leaked. Drop Dead: The Cabin – Home Invasion will be released in October as a free update for the main game.

Scottish police to equip officers with AR headsets

Police Scotland is investigating plans for high-tech headsets that could enable facial recognition, instant language translation and even lip-reading. The AR headsets would also display information such as current local crime and warn officers of threats such as the presence of firearms. The Scottish Police Authority (SPA) has already approved £400 million plans for a related "Digital Division" to combat cybercrime.

AR headset Magic Leap 1 will soon stop working properly

Magic Leap has announced that the Magic Leap 1 AR headset will be discontinued on 31 December 2024. The company has emailed all customers to inform them of the upcoming discontinuation of operating system updates, customer support and cloud services for the device. The Magic Leap 1 was launched in 2018 as the first transparent AR headset for consumers, but failed to sell well due to its high price and the limitations of its transparent optics. The company is now fully focused on the enterprise market and the Magic Leap 2 headset.
