Silent Hill 2 now playable in VR with a first-person view
The PC version of Silent Hill 2 can now be played in VR thanks to a mod. It features a first-person view, motion controls and even melee combat.
VR modder Praydog is bringing another Konami horror remake to PC VR.
Since yesterday, VR enthusiasts have been able to fully immerse themselves in the dark world of Silent Hill 2 as James Sunderland.
According to Github, the VR mod offers the following features:
- Smooth movement
- Camera is corrected to fix interactions and audio direction

- Two handing of rifle and shotgun
- Properly projected crosshair in 3D space

- Fully immersive and accurate to weapon's size, even with custom models
- Contextual hit reactions
- Hitting enemies in the legs has a chance to incapacitate enemies for a short time, causing them to kneel in pain
- Physics impulses are accurately applied in the hit areas, causing limbs to move upon hits

- Items are attached to right hand when inspecting or receiving them (like ammo or syringes)
- The map is attached to both hands to simulate holding a map in real life
- Roomscale movement
- Automatic disabling of VR features in cutscenes and full-body events (though still fully 6DOF and stereoscopic)
You can download the VR mod from Github, where you will also find installation instructions. The VR mod is based on the universal VR mod UEVR, more information on that can be found below.
The cheapest way to get into PC VR is the Meta Quest 3S for $300.
Who is Praydog and what is UEVR?
Praydog is a well-known PC VR modder and has brought many Resident Evil games to VR.
His biggest contribution to PC VR modding is the universal VR mod UEVR, an open-source framework that makes almost any UE4 and UE5 flat-screen title playable with VR headsets, including many older and current AAA titles. The VR mod for Silent Hill 2 uses a customized version of UEVR.
Silent Hill 2 is a remake of the 2001 horror classic and was released on October 8, 2024 for Playstation 5 and Windows. It has an average score of 86 on Metacritic.
