FACTS

Ghosts of Tabor, the VR extraction shooter from Combat Waffle Studios, has reached a new milestone. After the official release in the Meta Horizon Store in February for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 2, and in the Pico Store in May, the shooter doubled its sales. Since then, Ghosts of Tabor has been one of the top-selling games for Meta Quest.

The company recently announced that the game has now surpassed $20 million in total sales. Ghosts of Tabor only broke the $10 million mark in early 2024 — just 325 days after its launch in the App Lab and Early Access on Steam.

Ghosts of Tabor: Long play sessions and high player engagement

Ghosts of Tabor also stands out for its exceptionally long play sessions. On average, players spend more than 100 minutes per session. This has been the case since the first day of Early Access. Last month, the title had an average of 160,000 monthly active users. Ghosts of Tabor has accumulated a total of 835,000 registered players. The average playtime per session is currently 120 minutes.

In another sign of the community's high level of engagement, the game's Discord server has 113,000 members, or nearly 14% of all registered players. This makes it the largest VR shooter community on the platform.

Combat Waffle-CEO: AppLab and Early Access are key for success

Scott Albright, CEO, and founder of Combat Waffle Studios, attributes the game's ability to keep players engaged to the insights they gained from early players. The App Lab was critical to the success of Ghosts of Tabor, Albright says. Access to the alpha helped the studio learn a lot from the community. They were able to prioritize the technical aspects to deliver the experience players wanted.

Conditions in Grim are even more inhospitable. On Mars, where you were stranded, you must survive on scarce resources. Explore the mysterious surface of the red planet, build a secure base, and defend it against rival survivors and unknown dangers. There is no release date for Grim yet, but it will be released not only for Meta Quest 3 and Steam, but also for Playstation VR 2.
