The v69 update is rolling out to Quest 3, Quest 2 and Quest Pro owners now. As usual, it may take up to a week or longer for the update to reach all users.

The update brings the following new features and improvements:

  • New virtual environment "Oceanarium": Immerse yourself in an underwater world of seaweed and anemones moved by gentle ocean currents, and get up close and personal with sea turtles, manta rays, and even a majestic whale.
  • Seamless multitasking: Multitask more effectively by keeping the universal menu and up to three windows open in fully immersive apps. So you can look up information, watch videos, or chat with friends while you're playing your immersive games and apps. Seamless multitasking is currently an experimental feature. Read about our experience with seamless multitasking.
  • The new window layout (up to six windows, three of which can be placed anywhere in the room) has left the experimental status and is now a regular feature.
  • Content-adaptive backlight control: Improves contrast and battery life by adjusting the headset's backlight to the content displayed. This feature was already announced for v68, but hasn't rolled out until now.
  • Remove apps: You can now remove unwanted apps and worlds from your Apps library (including those that have already been uninstalled) to keep your library tidy.
  • Improvements to the boundary system: The boundary is now more dynamic. When you enter the Home environment, you are automatically placed in a stationary boundary, so you don't have to keep searching for or creating a room scale boundary. You will still be prompted to create a room scale boundary when you open fully immersive experiences that require a room scale boundary.
  • Quick Bluetooth pairing: You can now pair supported Bluetooth devices such as headphones, keyboards, mice, and gamepads faster when they are in pairing mode and close to the headset. By enabling this option in the Bluetooth settings, you will receive a pairing notification when a nearby device is available for pairing and you can pair it immediately.
  • Spatial audio for windows:This feature makes the audio from selected windows sound as if it is coming from the surrounding windows, which can result in a richer, more realistic sound. The audio in fully immersive apps has not changed.
  • Improvements to interactions with the head-tracked cursor: The cursor is now hidden when it is not needed, such as when watching a movie or using 2D apps, and only appears when you need it.
  • Stylus support: Supported stylus devices, including Logitech MX Ink, can now be used to interact with the universal menu. In the stylus settings, you can learn how to use the stylus, configure the button mapping and adjust the pressure sensitivity.
  • Mandatory update for social experiences: Beginning in October 2024, v69 will be required for all Horizon Worlds, Horizon Workrooms, and Copresence experiences. Users who have not yet upgraded to v69 will be prompted to do so before accessing Meta Horizon social experiences.
  • New activation word for Meta AI: Meta has introduced a new way to activate Meta AI with your voice. By enabling this feature in the Meta AI settings, you can say "Hey Meta" to communicate with the assistant. Meta AI for Meta Quest is currently available in the US and Canada only.
  • Permissions history: You can now check app accesses to sensitive permissions for the past 7 days.
  • Privacy settings update:The privacy settings for Meta Quest and Horizon Worlds have been unified and simplified. Visibility and status can be controlled from the Social tab.
