FACTS

Flat2VR Studios announced its first four projects at the VR Games Showcase. The company is working on VR adaptations of the racing series FlatOut, the roguelike shooter Roboquest, the retro FPS Wrath: Aeon of Ruin, and the rhythm game Trombone Champ.

FlatOut

The FlatOut series, known for its demolition derby racing and destructible environments, will take full advantage of VR's immersive capabilities, according to Flat2VR Studios. For Roboquest, the studio promises to intensify the fast-paced gameplay and comic-style graphics in virtual reality.

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin, a 90s-style shooter powered by the Quake engine, is set to offer an even more atmospheric experience in VR. The adaptation is being developed in collaboration with Team Beef and 3D Realms.

Trombone Champ: Unflattened

Trombone Champ: Unflattened, a VR version of the surprise hit Trombone Champ, will be released in fall 2024 for Meta Quest, Playstation VR 2 and Steam VR. The game features over 50 songs, a single-player campaign mode, 3D environments and customization options for the virtual trombone.

CONTEXT

Flat2VR: First projects after successful studio launch

Flat2VR Studios will present Trombone Champ: Unflattened and other titles at Gamescom 2024 in the Home of XR Megabooth. With 18 playable experiences from 13 studios, this area will be the largest VR presence at Gamescom to date.

Flat2VR Studios grew out of the Flat2VR modding community, which specialized in unofficial VR ports of flat-screen games. The company has already secured significant financial backing.

It partnered with investment firm Hartmann Capital and was accepted into venture capitalist Andreessen Horowitz's A16Z GAMES SPEEDRUN 3 funding program, which provided $750,000 in seed funding.
