10 epic PC VR games you have to try with Playstation VR 2

The PC adapter for Playstation VR 2 will be released on August 7. Here are ten classic PC VR experiences you should check out.

Playstation VR 2 will soon become a PC VR headset, giving you access to thousands of VR games from the SteamVR library.

If you have a computer that meets the hardware requirements and are ready to dive deep into the world of PC VR for the first time, read on.

The following list contains VR experiences that really shine on the PC VR platform. In addition, there are many other new titles that will be available on August 7th, but most of them are already available for Meta Quest and are therefore not included here.

Rift exclusives such as Lone Echo 1 & 2, Asgard's Wrath and Stormland are not supported out of the box, but you can get them to work using the Revive tool. We will add these major PC VR games to our list shortly.

In addition to the games listed here, you should take a look at another dimension of PC VR gaming: The world of Flat2VR modding (Discord link) and the universal mod UEVR. These bring large flatscreen titles to VR with impressive results.

Please note that the quality of the PC VR experience depends on the characteristics of your PC hardware, and some titles, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator, are very demanding in terms of performance.

Half-Life: Alyx

Half-Life: Alyx is the first full-fledged Half-Life game since 2007 and was designed from the ground up for virtual reality.

The story takes place between the events of Half-Life and its sequel. Players take on the role of Alyx Vance, a young resistance fighter battling the Combine. After the Black Mesa incident, the alien race has invaded Earth and subjugated humanity.

Modded Skyrim VR

The VR port of Bethesda's great role-playing game was already released for the first Playstation VR. The PC VR version inherited its weaknesses, such as the 2D interface and lack of hand interaction.

Fortunately, the vibrant PC modding scene has come to the rescue: With mods, Skyrim VR can be upgraded to a VR experience unlike any other.

In case you have never played Skyrim VR before, the VR port offers the most immersive version of the game to date and hundreds of hours of high-quality role-playing entertainment.

Modded Fallout 4 VR

Bethesda's second major VR port suffers from the same problems as Skyrim VR. But like Skyrim, the game world is full of quests and adventures, and thanks to VR mods, the possibilities are endless.

Microsoft Flight Simulator

The 40th Anniversary Edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator offers a realistic and graphically stunning flying experience with detailed aircraft, tens of thousands of recreated airports, and a digitally reconstructed world with weather conditions that adapt to real-world conditions. VR support makes the cockpit experience even more immersive.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice VR Edition

In 2018, studio Ninja Theory delighted VR fans with a simple but effective virtual reality port of the ingenious flat screen title, in which you take on the role of schizophrenic Senua.

The game is played as usual with a mouse and keyboard or gamepad, but is much more immersive than on a monitor. What's really cool is that there is a diorama view that allows you to control Senua as a miniature 3D character through the world. Battles and especially the slow motion effects are a visual feast from this perspective.

Star Wars Squadrons

The space combat game has been developed in parallel for screens and virtual reality and offers an excellent VR mode.

Squadrons is a real highlight for Star Wars fans, as it offers an extensive and superbly staged single-player campaign. The story takes place shortly after the events of "Return of the Jedi" and lets you alternate between the roles of a New Republic and an Empire pilot. The game also comes with two multiplayer modes.

Boneworks

Released in 2019, Boneworks relied on physics more radically than other VR games of its time, shaping many subsequent VR titles, including Half-Life: Alyx. Stress Level Zero simulated the inertia of weapons, objects, and the player's own virtual body, allowing for new and more realistic forms of interaction between the world and the player.

Boneworks is also available for Meta Quest, but only unofficially and as a Bonelab mod.

Dirt Rally 2.0

In this game you race against the clock all over the world. The authentic driving experience on the gravel, mud and asphalt tracks has been a hallmark of the series since the very first installment: the different cars behave very differently and the track conditions are perfectly transferred to the driving behavior. In VR everything looks even more impressive.

In addition to Dirt Rally 2.0, there are a number of other PC racing games with VR support: Assetto Corsa, Project Cars 2, F1 22-24 and EA Sports WRC.

Elite Dangerous

The space simulation Elite Dangerous was originally designed to be played on a monitor, but the cockpit experience really comes into its own in virtual reality.

The galaxy in Elite Dangerous is huge: players can explore around 400 billion star systems, either alone or in online mode. New pilots start with a small spaceship and have to earn their spurs. Trading, smuggling, and bounty hunting earn money that can be used to buy new and bigger ships. If you feel like it, you can also try your hand at influencing the balance of power in the star systems and supporting one of the three factions (Empire, Federation or Alliance).

Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia is a psychological horror game that puts up to four players in the role of ghost hunters. It features realistic graphics and sounds as well as a minimal user interface for an immersive experience. There are over 20 different types of ghosts to identify, each with unique characteristics and abilities. Players use familiar ghost-hunting equipment such as EMF devices, spirits boxes, and night vision cameras to gather evidence and document paranormal activity.

Phasmophobia was announced for PS5 and Playstation VR 2 some time ago, but there has been no sign of the VR port since the beginning of the year.
